Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has orchestrated a high-level inter-agency security meeting at the Force Headquarters in Abuja to strategize in anticipation of the forthcoming governorship elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states.

The meeting brought together senior officers representing the leadership of various security and law enforcement agencies responsible for election security. Notable attendees included representatives of the service chiefs, such as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), and Chief of Air Staff (CAS).
Also present were key figures like the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Controller-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the head of the Correctional Services, the leader of the Federal Fire Service, and the Director-General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, explained that this meeting was convened in preparation for the off-season elections scheduled for November 11, 2023, in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo states.
The IGP, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of operations, DIG Ede Ayuba, stressed the importance of sharing ideas among various security and law enforcement agencies to ensure effective election security.
DIG Ayuba emphasized the IGP’s commitment to maintaining law and order during the elections, cautioning political actors and their supporters to adhere to the rules, as any form of hooliganism, political rascality, or lawlessness will not be tolerated. The goal is to develop collaborative strategies to ensure the upcoming elections are secure, free, fair, and credible.
He commended the collaborative efforts of the armed forces and sister law enforcement agencies, acknowledging their role in promoting unity and contributing to the success of previous general elections.
This meeting is one in a series of brainstorming sessions initiated by the Force to secure the upcoming off-season elections scheduled for November 11, 2023.
