The management explained that her death was attributed to financial misappropriation and immense pressure from app agents demanding rapid repayment. This, combined with her brother’s inability to provide financial assistance, led to her experiencing depression.

The statement detailed the sequence of events, stating that Hameedat had been entrusted with a significant sum of money by her mother. She met a young man on Snapchat who claimed his mother was battling breast cancer and urgently needed N500,000. Out of compassion, she decided to help him by lending him half of the N1 million intended for her mother’s needs, with a promise of repayment.

However, when her mother needed the money back, the young man abruptly cut off all contact, blocking her. This left her deeply distressed, and in her efforts to replace the missing N500,000, she resorted to borrowing money from various apps. Hameedat managed to gather N450,000 from loan apps and combined it with her savings of N50,000 to fulfill the borrowed N500,000.

Her roommate, who had retired to bed early, discovered her in distress, foaming from her mouth, and vomiting in the middle of the night. Alarmed, the roommate sought help, and Hameedat was rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), where she was tragically declared deceased.

The Student Union President, Ologundudu Adesunkanmi, popularly known as Royal Prince, confirmed the incident and stated that the university’s authorities were aware of the situation, and a thorough investigation was underway. The university community mourns the loss of Hameedat in such a devastating manner.
