Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), David Babachir Lawal, has voiced strong disapproval of President Bola Tinubu and the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the party’s current state and the overall situation in the country.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Lawal responded to the criticism he received from APC’s spokesperson, Felix Morka, after his Tuesday statement suggesting that Peter Obi, not Tinubu, won the 2023 presidential election. Lawal expressed his concerns that the APC has taken a different path from its founding principles in 2013/2014.

Lawal outlined his objections, highlighting the perception of the APC as evolving into an Islamic party, along with the diminishing freedom of speech for Nigerians. He criticized the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission’s actions concerning journalists under President Tinubu’s administration, deeming them inappropriate and unacceptable.

Furthermore, Lawal condemned Tinubu for the prolonged detention of the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

Lawal concluded by expressing the dissatisfaction of many Nigerians with ongoing revelations about President Tinubu’s identity and the prevailing security challenges in the country. He emphasized the need for a Nigeria that accommodates diverse perspectives and provides freedom of expression to its citizens, along with ensuring prosperity and security.
