Senate President Godswill Akpabio Calls Emergency Closed Session After Senator Ali Ndume’s Plenary Walkout
Senate President Godswill Akpabio Calls Emergency Closed Session After Senator Ali Ndume’s Plenary Walkout....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Senate President Godswill Akpabio called for an unexpected closed session of the Senate during Tuesday’s plenary. The closed-door meeting came shortly after Senator Ali Ndume, Chief Whip of the Senate, walked out of the chambers following a ruling by Akpabio that he was out of order.
Senator Ndume had invoked order 54 of the Senate Standing Orders to raise a point of order, expressing concerns about the Senate President’s conduct in the chambers, which he believed did not align with the established rules.
Addressing the Senate President, Ndume stated, “Mr. President, there are some things we do in this chamber that are against the rules. Sir, nobody is too big to learn…
In response, Akpabio requested a copy of the Standing Orders and proceeded to read order 54. He concluded that this order did not support the point Senator Ndume was making and subsequently ruled him out of order.

In apparent frustration, Senator Ndume gathered his papers and left the Chamber, heading straight to his office. Shortly thereafter, he received a call from a colleague, urging him to return to the chamber for an executive session.
However, neither the Senate nor Senator Ndume made any official statements regarding the incident.
A source close to the Senate’s leadership explained that Senator Ndume did not storm out of the plenary, as he eventually returned to participate in the executive session. The source clarified that senators have the freedom to leave and rejoin their seats at any point during plenary.
The source added that the issue with Senator Ndume was a misinterpretation of a Senate order. The closed-door session had already been planned to discuss important matters related to the Senate’s operations and was called shortly after Senator Ndume left his seat. Topics discussed during the session included an upcoming retreat, which could not have been adequately addressed during the plenary, and executive communications seeking the confirmation of certain nominees for appointments.
According to the source, “The Senator really wanted to contribute, but the order he cited did not allow him to continue speaking. The Presiding Officer, the Senate President, had to rule him out of order. What happened today was a misinterpretation of an order by a Senator.”
