Just In: Dino Melaye Urges INEC To Redeem Its Image Through Upcoming Governorship Elections In Kogi, Imo, And Bayelsa States....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Dino Melaye, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 11 election in Kogi State, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use the upcoming governorship elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa States as an opportunity to restore its reputation.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Melaye made this suggestion, emphasizing that INEC needed to address concerns raised about its operations during the previous elections.

Melaye, who had previously questioned INEC’s mode of operation during the presidential and national assembly elections, expressed his dissatisfaction with the electoral umpire’s performance. He pointed out that a mere trial run wouldn’t suffice to evaluate INEC’s effectiveness because there had been a trial run during the 2023 elections, followed by subsequent challenges.

According to the PDP leader, the Kogi election presents INEC with the chance to rectify the deliberate mistakes made during the previous election. He stated, “For me, it (the Kogi election) is an opportunity for INEC to correct the mistakes, deliberate mistakes of the last election using the instrumentalities of these three upcoming elections. It is an opportunity for INEC to renew her image. We all knew what happened during the last election. So I’m just saying my advice for INEC is that the Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo elections are an opportunity for them to become born again.”

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
