Breaking: Ekiti State Government Mandates Local Government Chairmen To Perform Structural Integrity Assessments On Aging Buildings....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

To prevent incidents of collapsed buildings in Ekiti State, local government chairmen have received instructions to collaborate with Town Planning Area Officers in identifying deteriorating structures within their jurisdictions. They are then required to submit their findings to the State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development within a week.
The directive came from the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oladapo Karounwi, during his visit to the site of a collapsed building on Odo Uri Street in Igede Ekiti. Karounwi also urged the chairmen to promptly evacuate the occupants of any identified dilapidated buildings within their respective council areas.
Karounwi emphasized that the identified buildings should be demolished by December, allowing the owners to maintain ownership of the land. However, if the demolition has not been carried out by January, either by the property owners or the local councils, the Ministry will take responsibility for the demolition, and the government will assume control of the land.
Karounwi reiterated that the Ekiti State Government is unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding the lives and safety of its citizens. He expressed his condolences to the family of the victims.
The commissioner also highlighted the determination of the Biodun Oyebanji administration to create a safe and conducive environment for the people.
Babatola Ogundana, Chairman of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, confirmed that plans are underway to demolish dilapidated buildings across the local government areas. He assured that the local council leaders would do their utmost to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
In response on behalf of the Akinyele family, the owners of the collapsed building, Mr. Sunday Akinyele appealed to the state government and well-meaning Nigerians for assistance in rebuilding the house.
