The Oyo State Police Command has successfully apprehended suspected armed robbers who allegedly hijacked and diverted a consignment of 103 rolls of imported rugs valued at approximately five hundred and fifty million naira. This criminal gang is known to specialize in the hijacking and diversion of trailers loaded with valuable cargo along highways across the state.
The three main suspects, identified as Moses Isaac, Lawal Adeshina, and Teslim Olapade, were arrested at their hideout located in the Ring Road area of Ibadan. The suspects have reportedly confessed to orchestrating a series of similar criminal activities along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.

According to Adewale Osifeso, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, one of the suspects, Olatunji, cooperated with police operatives and led them to the hideout of their criminal syndicate, where the stolen goods were recovered. In addition to the recovered rugs, the police also located the hijacked DAF Trailer that had transported the imported rugs.
In another related development, Osifeso reported that the command also apprehended suspected members of a criminal gang known for attacking commercial motorcyclists and robbing them of their motorcycles and other valuable possessions. These suspects, armed with guns and various dangerous weapons, carried out attacks on motorcyclists and seized their motorcycles.
One of the suspects, identified as Sunday Job, was arrested, and the stolen motorcycle was successfully recovered.
Furthermore, the Oyo Police spokesperson revealed that a group of suspected members belonging to an armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate targeted a filling station situated in the Elekara area of Oyo. They assaulted Alhaji Adamu Issa, robbed him of his mobile phones and cash, and subsequently abducted him. The suspects then contacted the victim’s relatives, demanding a substantial ransom with threats of harm if payment was not made.
However, the police managed to rescue the victim, and six members of this criminal gang were apprehended at various hideouts.

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Sunmonu Olasunkanmi Thaoban to four years in prison for laundering ₦16 million by disguising its illegal origins and converting it into a 2018 black G-Wagon Jeep.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Asset Forfeiture: In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the permanent forfeiture of both the convict’s G-Wagon and mobile phone to the Federal Government.

In a separate proceeding, Justice Aluko also convicted four Bureau de Change (BDC) operators—Umar Muhammad Lamido, Yusuf Musa Yusuf, Abdulmuhimin Mahmud, and Muhammed Musa—for conducting unauthorized foreign exchange transactions outside the official market. Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
A Delta State High Court has handed down death sentences to two individuals for their involvement in the 2018 killing of Delta State University (DELSU) undergraduate Elozino Ogege, following a ruling that found them guilty. Meanwhile, a third co-defendant facing charges related to the same incident was discharged and acquitted.
