President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted approval for the appointment of Ola Olukoyede as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This appointment is for an initial renewable term of four years, subject to Senate confirmation, as confirmed in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Thursday.

In addition, Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda has been named as the Secretary of the Commission, following the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa.

Here are five key facts about Ola Olukoyede:

1. Ola Olukoyede is a pastor ordained in the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

2. He originates from Ekiti State.

3. He is a lawyer with an extensive background, boasting more than 22 years of experience as a regulatory compliance consultant and a specialist in fraud management and corporate intelligence.

4. Olukoyede possesses a wealth of knowledge about the EFCC, having previously held positions as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman from 2016 to 2018 and as the Secretary to the Commission from 2018 to 2023.

5. Prior to his appointment, Ola Olukoyede was serving as the Secretary of the EFCC and held the position of the second most senior officer within the anti-corruption agency.

According to the police, the directive is part of renewed efforts to strengthen discipline, professionalism, and operational efficiency within the force.

reports that the development was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the FCT Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, following an emergency meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and heads of tactical units.

Sanusi said the assessment is intended to improve officers’ emotional stability, decision-making, and overall effectiveness in carrying out their duties.

The statement added that the exercise will commence with junior officers on Monday, May 4, 2026.

“In a decisive move to strengthen discipline, welfare, and operational efficiency, the Commissioner of Police also directed the Command’s Medical Director, ACP (Dr.) Ifayase Olabanji Akinola, and the Police Counselling Unit, to commence a comprehensive psychological and mental health assessment of all personnel of the command.

“The exercise, which will begin with junior officers on Monday, 4th May 2026, is aimed at enhancing emotional stability, sound judgment, and overall performance, both on and off duty,” the statement read in part.

The police commissioner explained that the initiative is part of broader reforms designed to ensure officers uphold the highest standards of conduct at all times.

Sanusi also issued a strong warning against indiscipline, urging officers to maintain professionalism and strictly respect human rights laws in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He directed senior officers to return to their various formations and brief subordinates on the new directives, noting that compliance reports must be submitted to the command headquarters.

The CP further warned that supervising officers would be held responsible for the actions of personnel under their watch.

He also called on residents of the FCT to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities to security agencies through designated emergency channels.

The move comes amid renewed public concern over police conduct following a viral video from Delta State allegedly showing a police officer involved in the killing of a suspect.

The incident sparked widespread outrage nationwide and prompted internal disciplinary measures, intensifying calls for greater accountability and reform within the police force.

He confirmed that the nomination has been forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.

According to the statement, the nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.

Mr. Tegbe, who hails from Oyo State, is described as a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across both the public and private sectors.

He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led key initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, governance, and regulatory advisory for government and private sector clients.
