The Federal Government Initiates The Insurance Of 83 Million Underprivileged And Vulnerable Nigerians....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Federal Government has unveiled the operational guidelines for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), signaling the beginning of the complete implementation of the NHIA Act 2022 and the initiation of health insurance enrollment for 83 million underprivileged and vulnerable Nigerians. The introduction of these operational guidelines is a critical step in enforcing the mandatory health insurance system in Nigeria. The NHIA’s operational guidelines serve as a foundation for fostering, integrating, and overseeing health insurance initiatives across the nation.

The NHIA Act 2022, a replacement for the 2004 law, acknowledges the decentralized nature of health insurance in Nigeria, establishes the Vulnerable Group Fund (VGF), and empowers the NHIA to advance, supervise, and consolidate health insurance schemes throughout the country. Speaking in Abuja, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, acknowledged that progress has been made in health insurance since the launch of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) before its transformation into NHIA, with a national coverage of roughly eight to nine percent of the population.

He expressed regret that the high rate of out-of-pocket spending for healthcare has led to inadequate coverage, an issue that the government, along with crucial health sector partners, is determined to resolve. Pate emphasized that the establishment of the NHIA and the introduction of operational guidelines underscore the government’s commitment to this endeavor. He explained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration aims to have at least 50 million Nigerians enrolled in the health insurance system in the coming years. Pate underscored the collaborative effort involving the public and private sectors, civil society, and state governments in developing these guidelines, with the goal of ensuring affordable healthcare for all, especially the poorest and most vulnerable citizens. Through the implementation of these guidelines, they anticipate significant increases in health insurance coverage over the next few years, aligning with the President’s transformative aspiration. The Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) has an allocation for vulnerable groups to ensure they receive the needed support.

reports that the party made its position known during an emergency press conference in Ilorin on Friday, describing the development as politically motivated and unjust.

He alleged that the move was targeted at dragging Saraki into a case in which, according to him, legal authorities had previously found no evidence linking him to the incident.

Adewara referenced earlier legal opinions from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, which reportedly stated that Saraki was not connected to the robbery case.

The party insisted that suspects in the case had already been prosecuted and convicted, with judgments upheld at appellate levels, while the matter is currently before the Supreme Court.

It also called on security agencies to monitor the situation closely, warning that such actions could heighten political tension in the state.

The party further appealed to residents, especially families of victims in Offa, not to allow their pain to be used for political purposes.

He said: “I will be running for governor in the 2027 governorship election. I have come to plead with you to set up a small committee… to determine how we can collaborate to make this happen.”
