During the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign kick-off in Lokoja, Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, announced that the nearly completed Ajaokuta Steel Complex in Kogi State would have the capacity to employ 500,000 Nigerians once designated as a free trade zone. He further pledged that once the project is completed, President Tinubu would fully exploit its potential, boosting foreign direct investment (FDI) and creating a conducive business environment for all sectors.

Shettima emphasized the importance of collaboration between Kogi State and the federal government, especially given Kogi’s status as a confluence state. He assured citizens of plans to make the Itakpe crop processing project a reality, promising jobs and affordable education under the Tinubu administration.
Stressing that the welfare of citizens would not be compromised, Shettima urged Kogi citizens to vote en masse for the APC governorship candidate, Ahmed Usman Ododo, on November 11 to consolidate the party’s achievements in the state. He also mentioned President Tinubu’s approval for the rehabilitation of the Obajana-Okene road.
Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for inaugurating the governorship campaign in the state and highlighted the accomplishments of his administration in areas such as security, education, and healthcare. He called for continued support to move Kogi State forward.
APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje emphasized the need for continuity under the APC, praising Governor Bello for delivering good governance to the people of Kogi.
The APC Campaign Council Chairman for Kogi State, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, urged voters to prepare their voter cards and turn out in large numbers for the November 11 governorship election.
Kogi State APC governorship candidate Ahmed Ododo pledged to follow the development agenda of Kogi State, focusing on security, education, agriculture, health, and women’s empowerment.
Notable attendees at the campaign rally included Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, Minister of Steel Development Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC.
Vice President Shettima’s engagements in Kogi began with meetings with traditional rulers and stakeholders in preparation for the upcoming governorship election. During these meetings, he sought support for the APC candidate and received assurances of support from the Kogi State Traditional Council and the Attah of Igala, HRH Mathew Ipaluwa. The traditional leaders commended Governor Yahaya Bello for addressing security challenges in the state.
