The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, recently engaged in discussions with Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, exploring the potential for collaboration in establishing a women’s affairs directorate in Abuja.

Accompanied by the Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmood, Wike and his delegation visited the State House in Abuja to deliberate on areas of possible cooperation with Mrs. Tinubu. Wike stated to journalists after the meeting, “We want to collaborate with her on how to take care of women and work with her to ensure that the Renewed Hope agenda is achieved.” He emphasized the FCT’s commitment to contributing to this agenda.

As part of the plan to establish the women’s affairs directorate in the FCT, Minister Wike indicated that he would first seek approval from President Bola Tinubu. While awaiting the approval, he appealed to the First Lady to consider him and his ministry as part of her team.

In her earlier remarks, the First Lady stressed that the comprehensive implementation of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda should not only focus on strategic developments in the agricultural sector but should also recognize the crucial role of women and create an empowering environment for them.

Mrs. Tinubu commended Minister Wike for prioritizing the inclusion of women and expressed her appreciation for the FCT’s efforts in the development of agriculture, one of the key focus areas of the Renewed Hope Initiative. She saw immense potential in this initiative and believed it deserved applause.

Remi Tinubu further added, “Just this morning, I saw a newsflash that the FCT Minister is collaborating with Israel on agriculture, and I said I would love to discuss agriculture with the honorable minister. Although women and children are our primary focus, it extends beyond just women. We even traveled to Belarus to study their practices. They have much to offer in various areas, and they are willing to assist, even going as far as offering scholarships through the Renewed Hope Initiative.”

She expressed her gratitude for the positive impact of the establishment of the directorate, as it would streamline their efforts in reaching out to women, thereby lightening her burden.

Calls for Resignation from Opposition Groups
