The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, held a meeting with the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, at his office in Abuja on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Wike expressed his ministry’s intention to collaborate with Israeli experts to establish technology-driven farms aimed at boosting agriculture and food production in Abuja. He emphasized the significance of this partnership in generating employment opportunities for Nigerian youth and addressing food security concerns.
Wike also revealed plans for the development of a technology village and welcomed potential partnerships with reputable individuals and organizations. He affirmed the Tinubu administration’s readiness to cooperate with Israel in the agricultural sector to provide employment for unemployed Nigerian youth.
Regarding the recent directive on the payment of ground rates by embassies and other organizations, Wike clarified that this policy was not designed to cause embarrassment but to improve revenue generation efforts.
On the subject of security, Wike acknowledged security challenges faced by the FCT, like other major cities worldwide, and expressed openness to collaboration with Israel to enhance security measures. He recognized the impossibility of achieving 100% security but emphasized the commitment to work diligently to minimize insecurity in the city.
In response, Ambassador Freeman conveyed that Israeli experts would contribute significantly if their initiative was accepted. He also expressed Israel’s readiness to establish a digital center in the nation’s capital, where individuals, especially youth, could acquire relevant technological skills for the digital economy.
