The Ebonyi State Police Command has initiated a search operation for suspected individuals associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra and Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) following an attack on innocent motorists and commuters at the Ezzamgbo Junction in the Ohaukwu local government area. During the incident, the assailants set fire to vehicles and motorcycles.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the armed individuals, believed to be IPOB/ESN members, launched the attack on commuter buses, tricycles, and motorcycles at Ezzangbo junction. They burned three commuter buses, four motorcycles, and one tricycle, but fortunately, no lives were lost during the incident.

Onovwakpoyeya mentioned that the police command has dispatched officers to the scene of the attack in an effort to identify and apprehend the culprits. She expressed confidence that the perpetrators would be apprehended before the end of the day.
An anonymous eyewitness, revealed that the suspected gunmen appeared to be enforcing an illegal Monday sit-at-home order and that their actions disrupted both vehicular and pedestrian traffic along the busy Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway. The eyewitness described how the hoodlums specifically targeted motorists, setting vehicles and motorcycles ablaze while residents sought safety.
The incident occurred at around 8 o’clock in the morning, with the armed individuals brandishing sophisticated weapons and firing shots into the air to instill fear in the area’s residents who were going about their daily routines.
In the aftermath of the attack, a significant presence of security personnel was observed both within and outside the state capital, restoring a sense of normalcy to the area.
