The vice president assured the nation that President Bola Tinubu is fully committed to supporting small businesses across Nigeria, highlighting that this event is just the beginning of many more to come.
The Skillnovation Programme will establish 15 state-of-the-art ICT centers strategically positioned throughout Nigeria to offer individuals and businesses access to advanced digital training, resources, and support. The first phase will focus on Katsina, Anambra, Borno, Lagos, Oyo, and Kano, while the second phase will include Delta, Kaduna, Ogun, Bauchi, Kwara, and Ekiti.
Vice President Shettima pointed out that Nigeria, with its burgeoning MSME sector comprising nearly 40 million entities, has the potential to lead business innovation beyond Africa. The Skillnovation Programme aims to unlock this immense potential by providing MSMEs with the necessary tools and skills to thrive and compete globally.
In his welcome address, Mr. Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation and MSMEs, stressed the importance of partnerships, emphasizing that the government alone cannot address the challenges facing Nigerians.
Mr. Moruf Oseni, the Managing Director of Wema Bank, commended the government’s commitment to empowering young Nigerians. He also announced the establishment of skills training centers in 17 states, starting with Lagos and Borno, with the potential to directly impact two million youths and one million small businesses across these states.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr. Bosun Tijjani, highlighted President Tinubu’s administration’s determination to harness the enthusiasm of youth in the technology sector and position Nigeria as a global power in the industry.
