Abuja – Abiodun Essiet, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Community Development to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasized the need to strengthen the connection between the government and its people as the key solution to the challenges facing Nigeria. She made this statement in response to her recent appointment, as conveyed in a statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, appointing her as the Senior Special Adviser on Community Engagement to President Bola Tinubu.
Essiet underscored the multicultural diversity of Nigeria but also acknowledged the various issues plaguing the nation, including regional conflicts and socioeconomic disparities. As a dedicated gender activist and development expert, she is committed to achieving the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4.5, 6, and 16, as well as identifying and addressing development gaps in society to enhance public service efficiency.
Her role as an SSA on community engagement is to facilitate a two-way dialogue between the administration and communities across the North Central region, ensuring that citizens’ voices are heard and that their concerns lead to actionable measures by the government.
Essiet expressed her gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for appointing her and assured that her role, alongside other SSA Community Development appointees, would contribute to an impactful democratic administration. She intends to employ an Asset-Based Community Led Development (ABCD) approach, incorporating all vulnerable groups into actions to identify community assets and drive solutions to their problems.
Furthermore, she aims to support Mr. President’s eight-point agenda for economic transformation and improved living conditions for all Nigerians. She highlighted President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian, regardless of their location or tribe, benefits from the current government.
Essiet pledged to work diligently to ensure that people in the North Central Region of Nigeria experience the positive effects of President Tinubu’s agenda, emphasizing the importance of making democracy’s dividends accessible to all citizens across the country.
