In anticipation of the upcoming governorship election petition tribunal verdict in Nasarawa State, a gathering of more than 1,000 women representing diverse religious affiliations, including traditional healers, from all 13 Local Government Areas of the state convened for a prayer rally on Sunday. The purpose of this rally was to seek a peaceful and righteous judgment in the state.
These women asserted their overwhelming support for Dr. David Ombugadu, the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), whom they claim to have wholeheartedly voted for during the March 18th election in the state.
It is worth recalling that during the rally, the women, clad in black attire and holding placards with various inscriptions, passionately sang in Hausa and engaged in heartfelt prayers, beseeching God to liberate the state from any form of oppression through a just and impartial judgment, devoid of ethnic, religious, or political biases.

Following the prayer session in Lafia, Hanatu John, the leader of the Nasarawa Women Coalition for Justice, elaborated on the purpose of the rally. She emphasized that the rally aimed to invoke divine intervention in the legal case involving Dr. Ombugadu of the PDP and Governor Abdullahi Sule of the APC. Hanatu expressed unwavering faith that God would honor the sincere prayers of these elderly women, even under the scorching sun, by guiding the tribunal judges to dispense justice to the state’s residents on the judgment day.
Furthermore, Hanatu emphasized that all residents of Nasarawa State, including members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), were aware that the true winner of the March 18, 2023 election was the PDP candidate, Dr. David Ombugadu, as confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). She noted that the unity of purpose demonstrated by these women, representing various faiths, from across the state, illustrated their commitment to ensuring that the tribunal and the judiciary acted justly by reviewing the election results from all 13 LGAs and declaring the genuine victor of the gubernatorial election.
