Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has revealed a generous contribution of N250 million to the Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Centre (Ibom LED) for the training and empowerment of approximately 400 entrepreneurs within the state.
During the formal inauguration of the “Made in Akwa Ibom Trade Fair” held at the Ibom LED Headquarters on IBB Avenue, Uyo, as part of the celebrations marking the state’s 36th anniversary, Governor Eno expressed admiration for the skills and creativity of individuals engaged in various trades. He encouraged these entrepreneurs to utilize the trade fair as an opportunity to proudly showcase their innovations.
Of the allocated funds, N50 million will cover the registration and training fees for the entrepreneurial students, while N500,000 will be provided as a start-up grant for each participant upon the successful completion of their training in various fields, enabling them to establish their businesses.

Governor Eno reaffirmed his commitment to fostering the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises in the state and creating a conducive environment for business development, which aligns with his campaign promise to nurture and support entrepreneurs.
He urged entrepreneurs to improve the quality of their products and assured them of assistance in finding markets for their goods. In addition, Governor Eno emphasized his determination to stimulate employment opportunities for the people, recognizing that, apart from government jobs and political appointments, individuals can secure gainful employment through their skills.
To optimize resources and provide accessible entrepreneurial education, Governor Eno revealed the transformation of the Ibom E-Library into an Entrepreneurial and Leadership School. He explained that this move was inspired by the facility’s abandonment and the necessity of having a local business school to eliminate the need to send Akwa Ibom residents to other locations for training.
Governor Eno expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Trade and Investment, as well as the Ibom LED team led by Director General Mrs. Ekaette Umoh and Senior Special Assistant on Entrepreneurial Development Mr. Ime Uwah for swiftly organizing the exhibition and effectively interpreting his vision for the Entrepreneurial Centre. He commended their dedication and achievements.
Emem Bob, the State Commissioner for Economic Development, praised the Governor for his commitment to nurturing businesses in the state and revitalizing the trade fair initiative. Bob announced that the compilation of a database of all SMEs in the state, as directed by the Governor, would be expanded to accommodate more businesses. He urged residents to engage with the government’s entrepreneurial programs to reap their benefits.
Pastor Imo Abasi Jacob, Team Leader of the Ibom LED team and Chairman of the Centre’s Board of Trustees, acknowledged the Governor’s understanding of entrepreneurship’s pivotal role in economic development. He pledged to ensure the Governor’s vision for training and supporting the people would be fully realized.
