The Zamfara Police Command has affirmed its commitment to conducting a comprehensive inquiry into the tragic demise of Hamisu Danjibga, a seasoned journalist. This assurance was conveyed in a statement released in Gusau on Friday by ASP Yazid Abubakar, the Command’s Public Relations Officer.
Danjibga, who served as the State Correspondent for the Hausa Service of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), had gone missing for a span of three days before his lifeless body was discovered in a drainage pit behind his residence on Wednesday.
ASP Abubakar disclosed that the command was alerted to the journalist’s disappearance by Ibrahim Musa, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). The journalist had been unaccounted for since Sunday, September 16.

Upon receiving this information, the Divisional Police Officer of Tudun-Wada Division in Gusau, the state capital, promptly assembled a team of detectives to probe the circumstances surrounding the case. On September 20, at approximately 1:33 AM, further information led to the discovery of the journalist’s badly decomposed remains in the drainage pit behind his residence.
Furthermore, this investigative effort resulted in the apprehension of a suspect, Mansur Haruna, aged 35, who was found in possession of a Gionee cell phone suspected to belong to the deceased.
The case remains under investigation, and any developments will be communicated to the public as they unfold. The Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Muhammad Dalijan, extends its condolences to the family, the NUJ members, the management of VON’s Hausa service, and the entire state on the loss of this esteemed journalist.
