Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, during the third Annual GYB Seminar for Nigeria’s Political and Crime Correspondents/Editors in Abuja, addressed the misconception that the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Ahmed Ododo, is his blood relative. The governor emphasized that while they may share a common place of origin, they are not blood relatives.
Governor Bello explained that Ododo had resigned from his position in the Kogi State civil service before participating in the April 14 primary election of the APC, in which he emerged as the winner. He expressed confidence that Ododo would succeed in the November 11 election, assuring that the electoral process would be transparent and credible.
The governor highlighted his administration’s commitment to merit-based appointments, irrespective of factors such as senatorial zones, ethnicity, or religious affiliations. He asserted that ethnic sentiments had diminished since he assumed office.

Governor Bello stressed Ododo’s popularity and compassionate nature, dismissing the notion that he would instigate insecurity in an election where he stands as the favored candidate.
Furthermore, the governor pledged that the November 11 election would be peaceful and devoid of violence, drawing from his experience supervising previous elections and expressing the belief that it would be the most peaceful one yet.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, echoed the commitment to a violence-free election and emphasized the government’s focus on security to maintain the state’s path to greatness. He assured that Kogi would continue to play a significant role on the national stage.
Fanwo also highlighted the GYB seminar’s goal of building the capacity of Nigerian journalists to enhance their reporting skills and communicate effectively, noting that Governor Bello would hand over to a successor in January 2024, who would continue organizing the seminar.
