President Bola Ahmed Tinubu embarked on his first official trip to the United States, making a notable stop at the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations Stock Market (NASDAQ) headquarters in New York City on September 20.
This event was orchestrated by the American Business Council Nigeria in collaboration with the United States Chamber of Commerce, Nigerian Investment Promotions Council (NIPC), National Association of Securities Dealers Automatic Quotation System (NASDAQ), and the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) on the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Following the ringing of the closing bell at NASDAQ, President Tinubu and his delegation engaged in a roundtable discussion with counterparts from the U.S. and Nigeria, representing both public and private sectors.
Scott Eisner, President of the U.S.-Africa Business Center at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, delivered opening remarks, underscoring Nigeria’s significance as a trading partner to the United States.
The event also featured the presence of the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Treasury, Wally Adeyemo, who praised President Tinubu’s decisive measures in ending the fuel subsidy, foreseeing increased investment in Nigeria and a stronger U.S.-Nigeria partnership.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emphasized the burgeoning creative industry in Lagos state, which offers a conducive environment for U.S. businesses to flourish.
President Tinubu downplayed conflict concerns in Nigeria and emphasized the importance of fostering robust U.S.-Nigeria relations, affirming that Nigeria is open for business and investment.
The President of the American Business Council, Sops Ideriah, noted that the event’s turnout underscores the economic opportunities present in Nigeria and the positive outlook for the country’s potential.

He said Tinubu’s continuity in office was necessary to sustain ongoing reforms and promote equity, justice, and fairness across the country.
Buhari made the call while speaking with journalists at the end of a three-day women’s capacity-building programme held in Oyo North.
He commended the President for creating an enabling environment that allowed lawmakers to initiate empowerment programmes targeting women, especially in small and medium-scale enterprises within agricultural value chains.
The senator disclosed that 120 women from across Oyo State benefited from the training, with each receiving ₦100,000 to support their businesses.
He urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely to improve their livelihoods and continue supporting the administration’s policies.
Buhari also encouraged participants to pray for the President, describing him as committed to improving the welfare of women and youths.
He explained that beneficiaries were drawn from all three senatorial districts in Oyo State, expressing confidence that Tinubu would emerge as the APC presidential candidate in 2027.
According to him, both he and the President recognise the crucial role of women in securing electoral victory for the party.
He added that more empowerment and capacity-building programmes would be rolled out in the near future to further support women and small business owners.
