On Monday, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa, the Police Commissioner of the Lagos State Command, officially launched a specialized investigative squad tasked with uncovering the circumstances surrounding the demise of the renowned R&B singer known as Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely recognized as Mohbad.
The inauguration of this 19-member team, composed of seasoned detectives from the Homicide Section of the State, took place at the command’s primary venue in Ikeja, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). It is worth recalling that the command had previously issued a statement on Saturday, announcing the formation of this investigative team.

The statement had cited the necessity for this action in light of escalating public concerns and the initial review conducted by the police regarding the overall circumstances of the singer’s passing.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, elaborated on the team’s responsibilities, noting that it comprises highly skilled homicide investigators. Their primary objective is to consolidate all allegations, suspicions, and conjectures from various sources pertaining to the singer’s death.
The team is entrusted with conducting a professional, thorough, and expeditious investigation aimed at establishing the truth, dispelling any uncertainties, and ensuring that justice is unequivocally served. This process will adhere to all necessary protocols, which might involve exhumation.
During the inauguration on Monday, Commissioner Owohunwa introduced the team, led by Mr. Saheed Kassim, an Assistant Commissioner of Police. The team members were drawn from various units within the homicide department, including legal and forensic experts.
Their mandate encompasses a range of critical tasks, including the exhumation of the singer’s remains, conducting an autopsy, toxicology, and histology examinations, visiting the scene of the incident, assessing hospital and medical reports, and reviewing statements from suspects and witnesses.
