The police’s account indicates that members of the opposing gang forcibly entered a beer parlour at Onimo junction, where the victims, known as Machine and SK, were enjoying drinks, and fatally assaulted them.
Supporting the police’s version of events, the local leader in the area, Onimo of Imo, Oba Olaniyi Agunbiade, recounted that he was watching a football match around 8 p.m. when he heard gunshots.
Agunbiade promptly alerted the Ijamo Police Divisional Officer, who responded promptly to the distress call. However, the incident had already occurred before his team’s arrival.
“The police removed the victims’ bodies for further investigation,” said the traditional ruler, as quoted by Daily Post.
The state police command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the occurrence to journalists, categorizing it as a clash between two suspected rival cult groups. She stated that an investigation has been initiated, and those responsible will face legal consequences.
