UPDATE ON TRAIN ATTACK: NRC Awaits Relatives Of The Victims As lady is rescued .

Fidet Okhiria, the managing director and chief executive officer of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, stated that the company has not yet received any complaints from members of the general public regarding relatives who have gone missing and who may have been kidnapped from a train station in the state of Edo on January 7.

In a conversation with our correspondent on Tuesday, Okhiria stated that he didn’t know if the abductors had been in touch with the victims’ families.


Okhiria claimed that the NRC was powerless to secure the release of the abducted victims.
We had security meetings, he remarked. I don’t know if the kidnappers have gotten in touch with the victims’ relatives.
No family has reached out to us to report that their loved ones have been abducted.
Nobody has mentioned it to us.
We only know that when they arrived at the station, the employees there claimed that they took many people, two of them were members of our team.

“Perhaps they (the families of the victims) are speaking with the police and other security organizations directly.
The security services are in charge of securing their release; the NRC is powerless to intervene.
The police should take action if something like that occurs.
The Edo State Police Command reported on Tuesday that it had freed one of the 32 people who had been abducted from the station, a female victim.

The command’s spokeswoman, Chidi Nwabuzor, reported that seven victims have since been freed, and efforts are being made to release further captives from the kidnappers’ lair.
One female victim was saved on Tuesday, he said.
Seven people have already been rescued by the security squad as of Monday, after six more victims were saved.

The government is stepping up security to combat crime and criminality, according to the deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu. He also warned that the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration would make the state unfit for kidnappers and other criminal elements to thrive.

Following a meeting at the Igueben Railway Station on Tuesday with the chiefs of security agencies and local leaders, Shaibu made this announcement.

“Everything we can is being done to get these people out.
The Governor has requested us to reassess our security plan and enhance the morale of the troops on the ground,” he said.

  • Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

  • The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
