“This means that the country’s capacity to deliver excellent social services such as food, clinics, and appropriate sanitation would be significantly strained.”

Male and female condoms, intrauterine devices, injectables, implants, pills, and emergency contraception are all modern means of family planning.

Speaking at the seventh Nigeria Family Planning Conference, with the subject ‘Journey to 2030: The Opportunities Ahead,’ Dr. Ejike Oji, Chairman of the AAFP and NFPC, stated the mCPR was low despite efforts by the government and development partners.
“Low utilization of family planning services has contributed to Nigeria’s poor maternal and child health outcomes, an existing maternal mortality rate of 512/100,000 live births, a high total fertility rate of an average of six children per woman, which contributes to the country’s rapid population growth rate of 3.2%, which has a negative impact on the country’s development and health situations,” he said.

It also noted that increased oil production is likely to offset lower global oil prices, boosting fiscal revenue and strengthening Nigeria’s external balance.
