The prize money for teams competing in the 2022 World Cup, which is currently taking place in Qatar, is a stunning $440 million.

The competition in 2022 comprised 32 teams from around the world.
There are 13 European teams, five African teams, four North American teams, four South American teams, and six Asian teams.

Qatar, Ecuador, Wales, Iran, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Denmark, Tunisia, Canada, Belgium, Germany, Costa Rica, Serbia, Cameroon, Ghana, and Uruguay all got $9 million apiece after exiting the World Cup in the group stage.

The teams who advanced to the round of 16 the United States, Senegal, Australia, Poland, Spain, Japan, Switzerland, and South Korea each received $13 million.

While those that reached the quarter-finals -Brazil, Netherlands, Portugal, England – earned $17 million each.

Fourth place team Morocco, earned $25 million and Third-placed team Croatia earned $27 million.

The runner-up, either Argentina or France, will receive $30 million, while the winner of the 2022 FIFA World Cup would receive $42 million.

This is a $40 million increase over the 2018 tournament.

Prior to 2006, World Cup-winning teams were never paid more than $10 million, with Italy earning an estimated $2.2 million for their efforts.

The individuals condemned to death by hanging are Danladi Lawal, Abdullahi Mohammed, and Mohammed Gulama Shaibu.

Case Summaries

  • Danladi Lawal (alias Dankawu): Presiding over the case, Justice James Omotosho sentenced the 33-year-old to multiple penalties, including death by hanging, life imprisonment, and additional prison terms, following his guilty plea to a five-count charge. Lawal was accused of abducting an elderly man in Katsina State in 2020 and collecting a portion of the demanded ransom, an act prosecuted under the Terrorism (Prevention Amendment) Act 2013.

  • Abdullahi Mohammed and Mohammed Gulama Shaibu: Justice Salim Ibrahim issued death sentences to both men after they pleaded guilty to their respective terrorism charges. In addition to the death penalty, Shaibu received a sentence of life imprisonment.
