At the UBA roundabout in the Orlu local government area of Imo state, members of the armed organization of the Eastern Security Network, or ESN, of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, were reported to be hiding in the bushes when five others fled, including the victim.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This was revealed to journalists on Friday in Owerri by Micheal Abattam, the Imo state police’s PPRO.

According to the police, the event occurred last Thursday when suspected hoodlums attacked policemen performing a stop and search. This led to a gunfight in which one suspect was killed by the officers’ superior weaponry, and the other suspects fled into the nearby bushes.

The command provided the following statement regarding how it occurred: “Following the robust security strategies emplaced by the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, psc(+), mandating officers and men to dominate the entire security space in the State and ensure the eradication of all criminal elements in the State for a crime-free holiday season.

“In accordance with this direction, intelligence-led stop and search sites were established at key locations inside the State’s three senatorial zones to stymie the antics of hoodlums.
When a six-man terror gang, suspected to be from the Eastern Security Network (ESN), an armed offshoot of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), arrived in a sienna car with the license plate ABUJA-GWA 932 CQ and attacked police officers who were performing stop-and-search duties along UBA Roundabout Orlu, Imo State, luck ran out.

“The alertness and dexterity demonstrated by the valiant police operatives who responded promptly, situating themselves professionally, startled the hoodlums who came prepared, shooting intermittently at the Police Operatives.”

“In the ensuing gun battle, the police’s superior firepower overwhelmed the hoodlums, who lost one with fatal bullet wounds while the others fled into the nearby bushes with their stolen sedan, one AK-47 rifle with fifteen (15) rounds of live ammunition, two (2) English-made Pump Action guns with ten (10) rounds of live ammunition, and various charms.
The police officers at the station were able to retrieve every item that had been left behind.
Later, the body was taken from the scene and placed to a mortuary close by.

The sienna car used by the terror gang was taken from its owner in Amurie Omanze in the Isu Local Government Area of Imo State, according to preliminary inquiry, which was submitted to the Njaba Police Station.
However, the owner has been contacted to provide ownership documentation so that his car can be picked up.
While the Tactical Teams of the Command are making diligent efforts to apprehend the evading criminals, police added.
