Involving Soldiers In Kano Emirship Tussle Reckless – Lukman....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Salihu Lukman, the former Deputy National Vice Chairman (North West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized the Nigerian Army’s involvement in the ongoing emirship dispute in Kano State, describing it as reckless. Lukman’s comments follow reports of the federal government’s deployment of soldiers to the mini-palace of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the recently dethroned Emir of Kano, on Saturday…..CONTINUE READING
The Nigerian Army, however, has refuted claims that its presence in Kano was to enforce any court order. Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, clarified on Sunday that the soldiers were deployed to prevent any potential security breaches.
Lukman issued a statement on Monday condemning the deployment of troops, calling it “recklessly insensitive” to the potential risks to human lives in Kano. He criticized President Bola Tinubu for approving the mission, arguing that it contradicts the founding vision of the APC and democratic principles.
Lukman expressed alarm over the events unfolding in Kano since the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano on Thursday. He accused the federal government of using its power to interfere in Kano State’s traditional institutions, thereby highlighting a crisis of impunity in the country.
He stated, “Why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will approve such reckless mission, which is incompatible with both the founding vision of the APC and every principle of democracy is worrisome. If this had come from former President Olusegun Obasanjo or former President Muhammadu Buhari, given their military background, it will be understandable.”
Lukman further criticized the action as an attempt to restore the “abrasive politics” of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in Kano State, undermining the authority of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The situation in Kano remains tense following the legislative changes and court orders surrounding the emirate system, leading to heightened political and social unrest.
