Mr. Mohammed Bala, the Technical Assistant on HPV Introduction at John Snow Incorporated (JSI), revealed this during an interview in Lokoja on Saturday.

Bala elaborated that on May 27, the NPHCDA, in collaboration with John Snow Incorporated (JSI) under the HPV Vaccine Acceleration Programme Partners Initiative (HAPPI) project, will offer comprehensive technical support for the initiative.

The week-long program will specifically target girls aged nine to 14 years, considered particularly vulnerable to cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer, Bala emphasized, is a deadly ailment that can take up to a decade to develop symptoms, and if not diagnosed early, can result in fatalities.

He stressed, “This is why the Federal Government and concerned partners are mobilizing to ensure that young girls are safeguarded against this disease from an early age.”

“As we kick off the immunization campaign in Kogi on May 27, we aim to cover all 21 local government areas, providing the HPV vaccine to the designated age group,” he added.

Bala urged parents, guardians, religious leaders, and community members to actively engage in sensitizing and encouraging girls to participate in the HPV vaccination program, thereby promoting a healthier future for them.
