Expressing concern over the high cost of accommodation in the FCT, Wike criticized the practice of business individuals who had received free land in the past for mass housing projects but later sold the properties at exorbitant prices.
Wike emphasized that the upcoming budget would include provisions for the construction of a Renewed Hope City, dedicated to providing affordable housing for the less privileged, rather than catering to the wealthy elite. He outlined plans to allocate these houses to those in need, ensuring access to essential infrastructure along with the housing units.
Additionally, Wike called for a review of laws related to vandalism in the FCT, citing instances of streetlight cables being vandalized. He highlighted the ineffectiveness of current laws, which impose minimal fines for such offenses, and urged the National Assembly to amend legislation to impose stricter penalties and deter vandals from damaging public infrastructure.
Wike’s commitment to addressing housing challenges and infrastructure protection reflects the government’s efforts to improve living conditions and safeguard public assets in the FCT.
