Justice Suleiman Belgore of the Federal Capital Territory High Court granted Hadi Sirika and his brother, Ahmad Abubakar Sirika, bail in the sum of N100 million Naira each, with two sureties.
One of the sureties must own a landed property in the Federal Capital Territory, equivalent to the bail sum. The court also imposed a restriction on the defendants, barring them from traveling outside Nigeria without the court’s permission.
In his ruling on the bail application, Justice Belgore maintained the conditions set by Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja.
Addressing Hadi Sirika’s bail motion, the court noted that the prosecution had not filed a counter affidavit. The judge highlighted Sirika’s compliance with previous bail conditions, his clean criminal record, his familial responsibilities, and the completion of the investigation as reasons for granting bail.
Similarly, ruling on the bail motion for Ahmad Abubakar Sirika, the court granted bail under the same terms and conditions as his brother.
The Sirika brothers, along with Enginos Nigeria Limited, are facing a ten-count amended charge related to contract fraud amounting to N19.4bn. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleges that Sirika conferred undue advantage on his brother and his company, Enginos Nigeria Limited, for contracts that remain unfulfilled.
After pleading not guilty to the charges, the duo will await further proceedings in the case.
