PDP Lawmaker Accuses Acting Chairman Damagun Of Conspiring To Sabotage Party Ahead Of 2027 Elections
PDP Lawmaker Accuses Acting Chairman Damagun Of Conspiring To Sabotage Party Ahead Of 2027 Elections
Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives, has launched a scathing accusation against the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun. Ugochinyere claims Damagun is plotting to destroy the PDP from within, aligning himself with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections…….CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
During a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Ugochinyere urged PDP governors, lawmakers, and other leaders to take immediate action to protect the party from what he described as “agents of the APC.” He highlighted several steps taken by Damagun following the last National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, suggesting these moves were designed to weaken the PDP.
Central to Ugochinyere’s allegations is the claim that Damagun is facilitating legal actions that undermine the party’s integrity. Specifically, he pointed to a court suit filed by the PDP under Damagun’s leadership, opposing the declaration of vacant seats for 27 defected lawmakers from Rivers State. This suit, Ugochinyere argued, shows Damagun’s allegiance to the APC rather than the PDP.
“The PDP is now approbating and reprobating at the same time,” Ugochinyere stated. “What happened? When was this new alliance forged? When did the PDP start defending defected lawmakers? Are the terms of this negotiation in the interest of the PDP or the APC?”
Ugochinyere further alleged that Damagun secured an ex parte order to remain in office with the assistance of APC members posing as PDP loyalists. He described the situation as dire, noting that the NEC had previously agreed on a peaceful exit for Damagun by the next meeting, which would see the emergence of a new chairman from North Central.
In what Ugochinyere termed a “payback action,” he claimed the current PDP National Working Committee (NWC) has hired a pro-APC lawyer to file court papers. These papers seek to reinstate sacked APC lawmakers, ostensibly to facilitate the removal of Governor Fubara from office. Additionally, Ugochinyere pointed to a court action that the NWC is not opposing, which allows a PDP caretaker list filled with APC members to be inaugurated.
“Since after the NEC meeting, which agreed for a peaceful exit for Damagun at the next NEC meeting, many strange things have been happening,” Ugochinyere said. “Now, in an action that looks like payback, Damagun NWC has hired a pro-APC interest lawyer to file court papers seeking to reinstate sacked APC lawmakers.”
He concluded with a stark warning to his party: “PDP governors, senators, and House of Representatives members who are keeping quiet will cry when they come for the entire party to sink it. This is another early warning for the party and those who believe in it to stand up and save the soul of the party before irreversible damage is done.”
The unfolding drama within the PDP signals significant internal strife, with potential ramifications for the party’s stability and its prospects in the upcoming 2027 elections.
