Raisi, along with Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, tragically lost their lives in the crash, which occurred in a mountainous area of East Azerbaijan province during foggy conditions.
Among those aboard were East Azerbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati and Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, the representative of the Iranian Supreme Leader to East Azerbaijan.
According to US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, there is no indication of US involvement in the crash, emphasizing that it appears to have been an accident.
“The United States played no role in that crash. That’s a verifiable fact.
“Various factors could have contributed — mechanical failure, pilot error, among others.
“While we continue to monitor the situation, we lack specific insights into the cause of the accident,” Austin stated.
