In a statement issued by Lt-Col. Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 1 Division Nigerian Army, it was revealed that troops deployed at a blocking position at Udawa conducted a fighting patrol along Udawa – Kurebe road on May 19.
During the aggressive patrol, troops made contact with insurgents and engaged them with heavy fire, resulting in the annihilation of five terrorists and violent extremists.
Among the items recovered during the encounter were one pump action gun, six cartridges, one empty AK-47 rifle magazine, one MP3 radio, one phone battery, two Baofeng radios, two Baofeng radio chargers, four memory cards, two sim cards, and four charms.
Additionally, troops deployed at Sabo Birni in Igabi Local Government intercepted suspected movement of terrorist elements at Baka general area on the same day. In the ensuing firefight, the terrorists fled to nearby hills with gunshot wounds, leaving behind an AK-47 rifle and two motorcycles.
Furthermore, troops lying in wait at Kwaga village in Birnin Gwari local government encountered terrorist elements, resulting in the neutralization of two criminals and the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and two motorcycles.
Maj-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 1 Division NA and Commander Operation Whirl Punch, commended the troops for their aggressive posture. He urged them to sustain the momentum and make life unbearable for terrorists and their cohorts.
Saraso also appealed to citizens to report individuals seeking medical attention for gunshot wounds and encouraged the public to provide timely and actionable intelligence to the Army and other security agencies for prompt action.
