‘I Won’t Reverse My Decision’ – Tinubu Defends Petrol Subsidy Removal.

Published

on

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has defended his administration’s decision to remove the petrol subsidy, insisting that Nigeria will not return to the policy despite growing calls from opposition figures for its reinstatement.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The President declared that he had no regrets about ending the subsidy regime, arguing that it had become financially unsustainable and was placing the country at risk of economic collapse.

Tinubu made the remarks on Monday during a political gathering tagged Together till 2027: An Evening with Original City Boy, organised by the City Boy Movement in collaboration with the Relax-Tinubu-Is-Fixing-Nigeria movement.

The two groups are supporting the President’s re-election bid ahead of the January 16, 2027, presidential election.

Addressing supporters at the event, Tinubu criticised opposition proposals to restore petrol subsidy, particularly those associated with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

He maintained that reversing the policy would undermine his administration’s economic reforms and efforts to put the country on a more sustainable financial footing.

The President likened calls for a return to subsidy to asking the biblical Moses to return to Egypt after leading the Israelites out of captivity.

“I could listen to my political opponents promising a return to subsidy. Most of all, sometimes I remember my scripture studies, both the Bible and the Holy Quran. When Moses left Egypt, they faced the challenge, and the Red Sea parted and gave way.

“You cannot ask Moses to go back to Egypt. We wake up with ideas, original thoughts, and deep thinking to move this country forward. With your energy, your support, we will never go back to Egypt. No regrets,” Tinubu said.

He expressed confidence in Nigeria’s economic future, insisting that the country was making progress and should remain committed to its current direction.

Tinubu also urged his supporters to see the forthcoming election as a decision about their own future rather than simply a campaign to secure another term for him.

“Nigeria must win this election before any candidate does. You are not campaigning for me. You are campaigning for your own future, and that future is renewed hope. There’s nothing that will push us back,” he stated.

While acknowledging the difficulties Nigerians had experienced over the past three years, the President said he had chosen to take responsibility for the country’s challenges instead of concentrating on the shortcomings of previous administrations.

He argued that Nigeria could not achieve lasting economic growth by continually relying on borrowing to finance its needs.

“We understood that a nation cannot borrow its way to greatness,” Tinubu said.

The President’s comments come amid continued political debate over the removal of petrol subsidy, with opposition figures calling for its restoration as part of efforts to ease the economic burden on Nigerians.

However, Tinubu maintained that his administration would not reverse the decision, insisting that the country must continue on its current reform path.

Fresh Controversy As Ndume Explains Why He Doesn’t Wear Tinubu’s Famous Cap.

Published

The senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, on Monday, disclosed why he does not wear the trademark crested cap of President Bola Tinubu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ndume made the remarks on Monday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he clarified that his decision not to wear the president’s signature cap did not mean he disliked it.

The lawmaker, however, maintained that political loyalty should be genuine rather than demonstrated through outward appearances or symbolic gestures.

According to him, some politicians wear Tinubu’s cap publicly but act against the president or his interests behind closed doors.

“It’s not that I don’t like Tinubu’s crested cap. You don’t have to fake the liking of somebody. You wear that cap in the afternoon and trample upon it in the night?

“Many of them are doing that. You don’t have to show that you like somebody. It’s within you,” Ndume said.

The senator also expressed concern over what he described as widespread hypocrisy within the political class, accusing some politicians of prioritising their personal interests over those of their party.

He argued that the All Progressives Congress (APC) faced greater challenges from within its ranks than from opposition parties.

While acknowledging that opposition parties remained resilient and continued to make bold political claims, Ndume insisted that the ruling party’s internal problems posed a more serious threat.

He compared the APC to a product whose marketers were failing to promote it effectively because they were more concerned about their personal interests than the party’s success.

“We have a product. The marketers are not honest. Those who are supposed to sell our product are busy caring so much about themselves, not about selling their product,” the senator added.

Ndume’s comments highlight his concerns about internal divisions within the ruling party and the need for its members to demonstrate genuine commitment rather than rely on symbolic displays of loyalty to the president.

The Osun State Police Command has declared Nurudeen Alowonle, a factional chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), wanted over the murder of Accord Party chieftain Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, announced this on Monday while addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Osogbo.

Zungura disclosed that six suspects had been arrested in connection with Oyeyemi’s killing, which occurred on September 13, 2026, at Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife.

The police commissioner added that security operatives were also searching for another NURTW figure, Adeyemi Ojo, popularly known as Sibi, who was allegedly involved in the incident.

According to Zungura, preliminary investigations indicated that Alowonle and Ojo allegedly mobilised the suspects to carry out the attack.

“Alowonle is declared wanted. The Command is intensifying efforts to apprehend Nurudeen Alowonle, Adeyemi Ojo, aka Sibi, and other suspects currently at large who are alleged to have participated in the heinous crime,” the commissioner said.

One of the six arrested suspects is Hammed Olalekan Dauda, also known as Jagaban, who was allegedly found in possession of a locally modified firearm.

Zungura said Dauda reportedly confessed during interrogation that Alowonle had given him the weapon.

“During interrogation, he (Dauda) reportedly confessed that the firearm was given to him by one Nurudeen Alowonle,” the police commissioner stated.

He further alleged that Alowonle and Ojo were responsible for mobilising all the suspects linked to the attack.

Another suspect arrested by the police is Waliyu Adejare, popularly known as Jay Jay, who was identified as Alowonle’s personal assistant.

The other suspects were identified as Tijani Ismail, Akinsola Ekundayo, Sijuade Moruf and Ayeni Adegbola.

The police also revealed that four of the six suspects arrested were operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps.

Oyeyemi, an Accord Party chieftain and political associate of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, was shot dead at Mayfair Motor Park on September 13 amid a dispute reportedly linked to control of motor parks across the state.

Following the incident, Adeleke ordered the suspension of NURTW activities throughout Osun State. He also directed rival transport union factions to vacate motor parks and instructed security agencies to apprehend individuals suspected of involvement in the killing.

The governor subsequently announced plans to reintroduce the Park Management System to regulate the administration of motor parks and garages across the state.

The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend Alowonle, Ojo and other suspects still at large as investigations into the killing continued.
