News reports that Vatsa communicated his decision in a resignation letter addressed to the APC chairman of Gulu Angwa-Gulu Vatsa Ward in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.
In the letter, the former commissioner stated that his resignation would take effect on Monday, October 19, 2026.
“I wish to write to inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Niger State, with effect from Monday, 19th October, 2026,” he wrote.
Vatsa explained that his decision followed consultations with his family, friends and associates, stressing that his departure from the party was a personal choice.
“My decision to relinquish my membership of the party, after due consultation with my family, friends and associates is personal,” he stated.
He also expressed gratitude to the APC for the opportunities it had provided him to serve in different capacities over the past 13 years.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank the party for the opportunity given to me to serve in various capacities over the last 13 years,” he added.
Vatsa, who previously belonged to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), became the pioneer Publicity Secretary of the APC in Niger State following the 2013 merger of political parties that led to the formation of the ruling party.
In 2015, former Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello appointed him Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism.
However, Vatsa was removed from the cabinet during a government reshuffle in 2017 and subsequently appointed Coordinator of Public Communication.
In 2023, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago appointed him Special Adviser on Public-Private Partnership before assigning him to the media and communication portfolio.
Vatsa was later relieved of his appointment in December, although the report did not specify the year.
His resignation marks his departure from a party in which he had held prominent positions at the state level and served in various capacities over more than a decade.

No More Medical Trips Abroad? How Remote Surgery Could Transform Healthcare In Nigeria.
Imagine a patient lying on an operating table in Abuja while a surgeon hundreds of kilometres away in Ogun State controls robotic instruments through an internet connection to remove a cancerous kidney.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Although it sounds like something out of a science-fiction movie, such a procedure has reportedly taken place in Nigeria.
On September 19, 2026, a team at Nisa Premier Hospital in Abuja collaborated with Redeemer’s Health Village in Ogun State to perform a tele-robotic operation in which a surgeon remotely controlled a robotic system to remove a kidney affected by cancer.
The procedure has sparked renewed discussions about how technology could improve access to specialist healthcare in Nigeria, where some patients travel abroad to seek advanced medical treatment.
However, beyond the excitement surrounding a surgeon operating on a patient from another state, important questions remain about the safety and practicality of the technology.
How safe is remote surgery? What happens if the internet connection suddenly fails during an operation? And, perhaps most importantly, will ordinary Nigerians be able to afford such procedures?
In an interview with Naija News, the Chief Executive Officer of Redeemer’s Health Village, Dr Adedamola Dada, discussed how the operation was conducted, the precautions taken and why he believes tele-robotic surgery could reshape access to specialised medical care in Nigeria.
Tele-robotic surgery enables a surgeon to operate on a patient from a different location by controlling robotic instruments through a high-speed internet connection.
Unlike conventional surgery, where the surgeon works directly beside the patient, the specialist operates from a console that transmits commands to the robotic system at the patient’s location.
Explaining the technology, Dada told Naija News that the defining feature of the procedure was the physical distance between the surgeon and the patient.
“What makes tele-robotic surgery different is the distance between the surgeon and the patient. In our case, the patient was in Abuja while the surgeon was at Redeemer’s Health Village in Ogun State, about 500 kilometres away,” he said.
Dada stressed that the robotic system does not perform the operation independently. Instead, the surgeon remains in control of the instruments throughout the procedure.
He explained that the technology could enable patients to access specialist expertise without having to travel long distances to meet the surgeons themselves.
“If a specialist is in another city, or even in another country, technology can potentially allow that expertise to reach the patient without the patient having to travel,” he said.
Inside The Three-Hour Operation
On September 19, 2026, Redeemer’s Health Village, RoboMed Global and Nisa Premier Hospital in Abuja collaborated on what the participating institutions described as Nigeria’s first tele-robotic surgical procedure.
Professor Obi Davies-Ekwenna operated the robotic system remotely from Ogun State while the patient remained at Nisa Premier Hospital in Abuja.
The procedure, known as a right radical nephrectomy, involved removing a kidney affected by a cancerous tumour.
The operation lasted approximately three hours, with a medical team physically present in Abuja to manage the patient’s anaesthesia, monitor vital signs and provide other essential aspects of care.
According to Dada, the remote surgeon controlled the robotic instruments while the team in Abuja remained responsible for the patient’s immediate medical needs.
“The remote surgeon controlled the robotic instruments used for the surgical procedure. At the same time, there was a complete medical team physically present with the patient in Abuja,” he told Naija News.
He explained that the approach brings together remote surgical expertise and the work of medical professionals at the patient’s location.
“It is not about replacing doctors and nurses at the patient’s location. It is about connecting the patient-side team with specialised surgical expertise that may be somewhere else,” Dada said.
What Happens If The Internet Connection Fails?
One of the biggest concerns surrounding tele-robotic surgery is the possibility of an internet disruption while an operation is underway.
Because the surgeon controls the robotic instruments remotely, a sudden loss of connectivity could create a serious challenge if appropriate safeguards are not in place.
Dada disclosed that Starlink served as the primary internet connection during the procedure, while MTN provided backup connectivity.
He added that the teams monitored the systems and paused at intervals to ensure everything was functioning properly.
“You cannot depend on one system alone,” he said, highlighting the importance of having a qualified medical team physically present with the patient in Abuja.
However, Dada did not disclose the precise internet latency recorded during the operation or provide details of a tested emergency handover procedure in the event of a complete connection failure.
These details remain important when assessing the safety and reliability of remote surgery, particularly when the procedure involves complex operations.
Dada said the hospital would continue working to improve its technical safeguards and emergency protocols as it develops the technology.
The experience has highlighted both the potential of tele-robotic surgery to expand access to specialist healthcare and the need for robust connectivity, reliable backup systems and clear emergency procedures before the approach can be adopted more widely.

BREAKING: Chelsea Goalkeeper Martínez Undergoes Successful Jaw Surgery.
Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has undergone successful surgery after fracturing his jaw during his team’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton on Saturday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The 34-year-old Argentina international sustained the injury in the second half at Hill Dickinson Stadium while attempting to clear a free-kick.
Martínez rushed off his line to punch the ball away but collided with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the process.
Medical personnel attended to the goalkeeper on the pitch for approximately eight minutes, providing oxygen and fitting him with a neck brace before carrying him off on a stretcher. Supporters of both clubs applauded as he was taken off the field.
Chelsea subsequently confirmed that Martínez had undergone successful surgery at a hospital.
The goalkeeper also took to social media on Sunday to share a photograph of himself in a hospital gown, thanking fans for their messages and expressing optimism about his recovery.
“Thanks to everyone for the messages. The operation went well,” he wrote.
“The most important thing is that we won and kept a clean sheet. In a few weeks we’ll be back.”
Martínez’s anticipated absence could provide an opportunity for Mike Penders to feature in Chelsea’s next three matches, including Premier League encounters against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, as well as a Carabao Cup fixture against Liverpool.
Penders, 21, replaced Martínez against Everton, making his Premier League debut and helping Chelsea preserve their clean sheet as they claimed all three points.
The Belgian goalkeeper joined Chelsea from Genk in 2024 for a reported fee of £17 million and has previously featured in the club’s cup competitions.
Chelsea manager Alonso praised Penders for his display against Everton, expressing confidence in the young goalkeeper’s ability to handle the responsibility when called upon.
“Mike has personality. He’s brave, and we have full trust in him. He did well when he came on,” the coach said.
He added that Penders had performed well in cup matches and whenever he had been given an opportunity to play.
“He played in the cup games and whenever he’s needed. Like the other players, whenever they are needed, they can perform.
“It’s all about the squad, that all the players feel important and can have their moment whenever they are needed, and that’s very positive,” Alonso stated.

Tragedy In Canada: Seven Feared Dead As Fire Ravages Military Base.
At least seven people are feared dead, while dozens of others have reportedly been injured following a massive fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta, Canada, during a live-fire military training exercise on Saturday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The incident reportedly began after military training activities struck a gas line or well, triggering an explosion and a rapidly spreading fire across the facility. However, authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of fatalities.
Canada’s Defence Minister, David McGuinty, said emergency responders were working alongside local authorities and military personnel to manage the situation.
Describing the incident, McGuinty called it “very, very active and delicate”, adding that he could not recall a similar occurrence in recent memory.
Prime Minister Mark Carney also acknowledged the “serious incident creating a major fire” and expressed his sympathy for those affected.
“My thoughts are with all the brave women and men affected,” Carney said.
The fire broke out on Saturday afternoon at the military installation in eastern Alberta. According to the Municipal District of Wainwright, winds reaching speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour intensified the flames, allowing the fire to spread beyond the base’s perimeter fences.
Local officials began issuing public alerts through online updates at approximately 5:30 p.m. local time.
Although firefighters managed to contain the blaze, emergency measures remained in place, with residents urged to stay away from the affected area to give emergency services room to operate.
Hospitals in the region also activated emergency response procedures to prepare for casualties.
The Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton declared a Code Orange disaster response to prepare for the arrival of patients from the incident.
Dr Warren Thirsk, an emergency department physician at the hospital, warned that the scale of the disaster could place considerable pressure on healthcare facilities across Edmonton without proper coordination.
He described the incident as the kind of disaster that might occur once every 15 to 25 years.
The emergency also prompted offers of assistance from neighbouring communities and provincial governments.
Wainwright Mayor Bruce Pugh described the incident as a “heavy day” for the community, while Alberta Premier Danielle Smith acknowledged the seriousness of what she called a “significant and tragic fire”.
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and British Columbia Premier David Eby also expressed their support and offered resources to assist with the emergency response.
Canadian Forces Base Wainwright is a major military training installation used for live-fire exercises. The facility typically accommodates approximately 690 military personnel and 300 civilian workers.
