ADC Fires Back At Kwankwaso Over Atiku, Accuses Him Of Advancing Tinubu’s Political Interest.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has criticised Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), over his call for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Reports indicate that Kwankwaso made the statement during an interview with Channels Television, where he revealed that he had urged some Fulani groups to persuade Atiku to step aside from the contest.
Reacting to the remarks, the Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Kola Ologbondiyan, described Kwankwaso’s position as reckless, self-serving and an attempt to promote President Bola Tinubu’s political interests ahead of the 2027 election.
Ologbondiyan also questioned Kwankwaso’s commitment to Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, and the broader opposition effort to unseat Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He alleged that Kwankwaso’s support for Obi was motivated more by personal ambition than by a genuine commitment to the opposition’s collective goal of defeating the APC.
In a statement, the ADC campaign council said Kwankwaso’s demand that Atiku withdraw in favour of Obi was a move that could undermine the opposition’s chances in the forthcoming election.
The statement read, “The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has berated Senator @KwankwasoRM over his call for former Vice President @atiku Abubakar to step down for Mr @PeterObi, describing the statement as reckless, self-serving and a desperate attempt to advance President @officialABAT’s political interests ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“Rather than campaigning against President Tinubu, whose administration Nigerians are eagerly working to vote out, Kwankwaso is fixated on Atiku Abubakar, the ADC candidate, whom millions of Nigerians believe can restore economic stability and make life affordable again.
“What Kwankwaso is doing amounts to advancing President Tinubu’s interests. It is a familiar APC strategy to use willing collaborators within the opposition to create confusion, sow division, and weaken the collective efforts to bring about political change.
“Nigerians are not fooled. There is a growing perception that Kwankwaso’s support for Peter Obi is driven more by his personal ambition than by a genuine commitment to the opposition’s collective objective of defeating the APC.”
The ADC campaign council further argued that Kwankwaso’s political influence should not automatically be equated with the ability to win a presidential election, pointing to his fourth-place finish in the 2023 presidential election.
It also highlighted Atiku’s political experience and nationwide network, describing the former vice president as a figure with relationships spanning Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
“Atiku Abubakar is a cosmopolitan, detribalised, and nationally recognised political figure who has built relationships across the North, South, East, and West over more than three decades,” the statement added.
The council urged Kwankwaso and his supporters to reconsider their position and back Atiku’s presidential ambition, arguing that his candidacy offered the opposition a viable route to defeating Tinubu.
“Atiku remains our preferred pathway to defeating President Tinubu and ending the hunger, poverty, and insecurity that the APC administration has foisted on our nation,” Ologbondiyan said.

‘Nigerian Girls Becoming A Nuisance Abroad’ – Atiku’s Wife Raises Alarm.
Titi Atiku Abubakar, wife of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has expressed concern over the increasing number of Nigerian girls travelling abroad, saying the situation has become a source of worry for foreign countries and contributed to international partners’ support for Nigeria’s fight against human trafficking.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
She explained that the partners wanted more Nigerian girls to remain in the country and pursue their ambitions at home rather than migrate overseas and become a burden on their host nations.
Titi, who is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL), made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja during the presentation of the organisation’s review of the 2025 Trafficking in Persons Report issued by the United States Department of State.
Speaking on the reasons behind international partners’ support for Nigeria’s anti-trafficking initiatives, she said the objective was to encourage Nigerian girls to stay in their country and build their futures there.
“You see, why our partners are actually helping us? Because they want our girls to stay at home. Our girls are becoming nuisance in overseas countries. So that is why these partners are helping us,” she said.
She added that the assistance was intended to strengthen efforts to combat human trafficking and empower Nigerian girls to pursue their goals within the country.
“They are supporting us, they are supporting the girls. They want them to stay at home and do whatever they want to do in their homes, in their country,” she added.
The NACTAL board chair also called for stronger collaboration among civil society organisations, stressing that tackling human trafficking, child abuse and child labour required a collective effort.
According to her, NACTAL could not successfully address the challenges alone and needed the support of other organisations working to protect vulnerable people and prevent trafficking.
“NACTAL has about 286 foot soldiers, those are the CSOs that are working with NACTAL because NACTAL alone cannot do it. So we must bring everybody on board to help in this fight,” she said.
Meanwhile, Abdulganiu Abubakar, the immediate past president of NACTAL and regional representative of the West African Coalition Against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, said the network’s review found that the contributions of the Nigerian government, development partners and civil society organisations were not sufficiently acknowledged in the 2025 US Trafficking in Persons Report.
He explained that the review was initiated after the report’s release to assess its evaluation of Nigeria’s efforts to combat human trafficking, particularly in the areas of victim protection, rehabilitation and shelter provision.
Abubakar noted that development partners had supported Nigeria in formulating policies, assisting trafficking victims and renovating shelters operated by civil society organisations and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
He said about 10 NAPTIP shelters had received renovation support, but the interventions were not adequately reflected in the US report.
He also argued that the work of more than 289 NACTAL member organisations, alongside Nigeria’s involvement in regional initiatives to combat human trafficking across West Africa, deserved greater recognition.
However, Abubakar acknowledged that Nigeria continued to face significant challenges in enforcing anti-trafficking policies.
He identified inadequate funding, insufficient political will and weaknesses in prosecuting trafficking cases, particularly high-profile cases, as some of the factors undermining the country’s response.
He urged the Federal Government to increase funding for ministries, departments and agencies responsible for combating human trafficking and demonstrate stronger commitment to implementing existing policies.
“The government of Nigeria needs to do a lot in terms of funding. The political will and commitment should improve,” he said.
Abubakar also called on the government to create an enabling environment for civil society organisations and development partners to operate independently while complementing official efforts.
He further urged the authorities to recognise investigative journalists who uncover human trafficking networks and expose alleged perpetrators.
NACTAL Plans To Expand Membership
In his remarks, NACTAL President Osita Osemene announced plans to increase the organisation’s membership from approximately 286 civil society organisations to 500 within the first three months of his administration.
He said the network was also targeting a membership of at least 1,000 organisations within one year.
According to Osemene, expanding the network would promote greater grassroots participation in the fight against human trafficking and improve assistance for victims and other vulnerable people.
He emphasised that the responsibility for tackling human trafficking should not be left to international partners alone, urging Nigerians to play a more active role in addressing the problem.
“The fight against human trafficking is a collective responsibility, and everybody must come together to ensure that this fight is won,” he said.
Osemene added that his administration would prioritise training and capacity-building programmes to equip more civil society workers with the knowledge and skills required to handle cases involving human trafficking and child labour.
He explained that the strategy would combine membership expansion with professional development to improve the quality of support available to victims.

2027: Adeyanju Fires Warning At Peter Obi, Kwankwaso, Tells Them To Step Down.
Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has challenged the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Adeyanju reportedly made the challenge in a post on his X account on Friday.
According to the activist, Obi and Kwankwaso should step aside if they are not working towards President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, as he alleged they did during the 2023 general election.
He wrote, “If Obi and Kwankwaso step down from the race, I will believe they are no longer working for President Tinubu like they did in 2023.”
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has predicted that Obi would defeat and embarrass Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, in the 2027 election.
Momodu made the remark during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he described Obi as a highly popular political figure in the South-East and South-South regions.
He also argued that Obi’s popularity could pose a significant challenge to President Tinubu’s bid for re-election, particularly in the two regions.
Momodu expressed confidence that Obi’s political influence would undermine Soludo’s chances in Anambra State and potentially affect Tinubu’s electoral prospects.
He said, “I can tell you something. Soludo is the same. I can bet my life on it that Peter Obi will humiliate and disgrace Soludo in Anambra state. I have no question about that.”

Obaseki Breaks Silence On Deadly Oluku Fire, Demands Urgent Safety Reforms
Former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has expressed condolences to the families of victims of the fire disaster at Oluku, along the Benin–Lagos Expressway, while calling for improved safety standards and stronger emergency response systems across the country.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement made available to Naija News on Friday, Obaseki lamented that disasters resulting in loss of lives, injuries and destruction of property had become increasingly common in Nigeria.
He warned against accepting such incidents as inevitable, urging Nigerians to examine the country’s safety regulations and collective responsibility for protecting human lives.
Obaseki said, “It is with a heart weighed down by grief and profound sadness that I read the news of the tragic fire disaster at Oluku, along the Benin–Lagos Expressway, which has claimed precious lives, left many others with devastating injuries, and destroyed properties and livelihoods.
“My heart goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones, those injured and currently battling for their lives, and all those whose lives and livelihoods have been irreversibly affected by this unfortunate incident. To the people of Edo State, I share in your pain and grief at this difficult time. No words can adequately express the anguish of losing a loved one in such tragic and avoidable circumstances.”
The former governor described the incident as particularly heartbreaking, noting that similar tragedies had repeatedly occurred across the country, leaving families devastated and communities in mourning.
He observed that poverty, systemic inefficiencies, inadequate safety precautions and the failure to address known risks continued to expose Nigerians to preventable disasters.
According to Obaseki, the recurrence of such incidents highlights the need for authorities and citizens to learn from past tragedies and take decisive steps to prevent further loss of lives.
He said, “As our people wisely say, a danger foreseen should not result in a disaster unprevented. Yet, despite the lessons of past tragedies, poverty, systemic inefficiencies, inadequate safety measures, and the failure to address known risks continue to expose our people to preventable dangers. We cannot continue to accept these recurring tragedies as inevitable, nor should we resign ourselves to a reality in which the loss of innocent lives becomes an all-too-familiar occurrence.”
Obaseki called for a thorough review of the country’s safety systems, urging relevant authorities to strengthen emergency response mechanisms, enforce existing safety regulations and address the underlying problems that contribute to such disasters.
He stressed that meaningful action was necessary to ensure the lessons from the Oluku fire were not forgotten and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The former governor added, “This latest disaster must stir our collective humanity and compel us, as a people and as a nation, to undertake a sober and honest examination of our systems, our safety standards, and our collective responsibility to protect human life. It must strengthen our resolve to build effective emergency response mechanisms, enforce safety regulations, and address the underlying failures that make such incidents possible. We owe it to the victims, their grieving families, and future generations to ensure that the painful lessons of Oluku are not forgotten and that meaningful action is taken to prevent a recurrence.”
Obaseki concluded by extending his condolences to the bereaved families, injured victims and others who suffered losses in the incident.
He also prayed for strength for those mourning their loved ones and a speedy recovery for those receiving medical treatment.
“My heartfelt condolences go to the victims, their families, and the entire people of Edo State,” he said.
