2027 Presidency: Shehu Sani Breaks Silence On North’s Ambition To Replace Tinubu.

Published

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged Northern politicians to allow President Bola Tinubu to complete his second term in office, warning that attempts to reclaim the presidency in 2027 could reignite separatist agitations in parts of the country.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Sani gave the advice while speaking to journalists in Kaduna during an interview on Friday. He urged Northern political leaders to wait until 2031 before pursuing their presidential ambitions, arguing that disrupting the existing power rotation arrangement could threaten national unity and political stability.

The former senator noted that the expectation of equitable power rotation between the North and South had contributed to a reduction in separatist agitations across the country.

According to him, abandoning the arrangement for ethnic or political reasons could reverse the progress made in addressing separatist movements.

“The danger of disrupting this rotational idea is the fact that whatever you are doing to Tinubu for ethnic reasons, Tinubu must go.

“Today, if you look at it, the agitation for Biafra has gone to the lowest point because they are hopeful that one of their own is contesting the presidency of this country,” Sani said.

He explained that separatist agitations in the South-East had declined partly because people in the region now see a possibility of having one of their own lead the country.

Sani added that similar agitations for a Yoruba republic in the South-West and greater autonomy in the Niger Delta had also reduced.

He warned that abandoning the power rotation principle could revive such demands, further complicating efforts to maintain national cohesion.

The former lawmaker also questioned how a president could effectively govern the country if significant sections of the population felt excluded from political leadership.

Sani maintained that the North had no strong justification for demanding an immediate return to the presidency, pointing out that former President Muhammadu Buhari, who hails from the region, served two terms between 2015 and 2023.

“The principle of rotation of power makes it clear that Buhari has been in power for eight years, so it is only logical and rational that you have a southerner,” he stated.

He further questioned the political arguments surrounding former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s continued presidential ambition, recalling that Atiku had contested against former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari at different times.

Sani’s remarks come amid ongoing political discussions over the distribution of power ahead of the 2027 general elections, with competing interests within Nigeria’s major political regions shaping debates over the presidency.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has praised the midfield partnership between Moisés Caicedo and Jordan Henderson following the Blues’ emphatic 5-1 victory over Bournemouth in the English Premier League (EPL) on Saturday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Alonso said the pair brought stability, balance and a better understanding of the game to Chelsea’s midfield, an area that had attracted concerns ahead of the encounter.

Henderson and Morgan Rogers both scored twice, while João Pedro also found the net as Chelsea returned from the international break with a commanding victory.

Speaking during his post-match press conference, Alonso was asked about the performance of Caicedo and Henderson and how effectively they worked together in midfield.

The Spanish tactician explained that although the two players possessed different qualities and positional attributes, they complemented each other well on the pitch.

“Both, in terms of qualities, are different, and in terms of positioning as well. I think that they help each other well and they give presence, they give stability.

“You know that they are going to be the ones that are going to be helping the rest, not just for their qualities because they understand the game.

“They can play in shorter spaces, but as well defensively, they give good balance,” Alonso said.

The Chelsea boss emphasised that strengthening the midfield was essential to the team’s continued development. He added that Caicedo and Henderson would be key figures in his efforts to establish a more effective unit.

“For me, it’s fundamental that we get that area strong and for sure with Moisés, Hendo played today, it was his second game,” he added.

Alonso also identified Romeo Lavia, Reece James and Valentin Barco as players who could provide additional options in midfield.

According to the manager, Lavia has already made useful contributions, while James has also featured in the middle of the park on several occasions.

Alonso said Chelsea would continue working to improve the department as he seeks to create a more balanced, dependable and competitive midfield capable of supporting the team’s ambitions.
