Oil Prices Rise As Trump Rules Out Fresh Iran Attacks Before Midterm Elections.

United States President Donald Trump has ruled out launching fresh attacks on Iran before the November 3 midterm elections, citing what he described as productive discussions between Washington and Tehran.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Trump’s announcement comes amid rising global crude oil prices and reports that the White House had directed the Pentagon to develop options for possible strikes against Iranian targets ahead of the elections.

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Thursday, the US president said the military blockade against Iran would remain in force but insisted that Washington would not launch an attack before the polls.

“I want to make it clear to everybody that, while Iran is in very bad condition, both economically and militarily, and while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect…we will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections,” he wrote.

“We are having productive discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump added.

The Atlantic magazine reported on Wednesday that the White House had asked the Pentagon to prepare options for potential strikes on Iranian targets that could be carried out before the midterm elections.

The New York Times also reported on Thursday that the plans were being developed despite Trump’s uncertainty about whether to proceed with the military action.

The reports have heightened concerns over a possible escalation of the conflict, contributing to fluctuations in international oil prices.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, climbed to $105.88 per barrel on Thursday before falling to $104.28.

Concerns over oil supplies have also intensified due to tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global oil shipments. Hostilities involving Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement and Saudi Arabia have further increased uncertainty across the region.

Fuel prices have become a major political concern for American voters following US-Israeli strikes against Iran on February 28, which triggered the conflict.

Putin Offers To Help End Middle East War

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has pledged to do everything within his power to help bring the Middle East conflict to an end.

Putin made the commitment on Thursday during a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Turkmenistan, ahead of a regional summit scheduled to begin on Friday.

“We are ready to do everything that is in our power to contribute to the settlement of this situation,” Putin said, according to Russian news agencies.

The Russian leader also stated that Iran had made “real efforts to end the war”.

Russia and Iran have strengthened their diplomatic and military cooperation since Moscow launched its military offensive in Ukraine in February 2022, with both countries becoming increasingly dependent on their relationship.

However, Pezeshkian expressed concern about Washington’s approach to negotiations, arguing that previous diplomatic engagements had been followed by fresh attacks.

“Iran is engaged in dialogue, but every time we negotiate with the United States, they attack again,” Iranian state media quoted him as saying during the meeting with Putin.

The Iranian president said Tehran wanted a “final framework” for ending the war.

He also accused the United States of attempting to impose its policies on other countries, warning that reaching an agreement would be difficult if Washington continued to pursue what he described as a unilateral approach.

“If the United States insists on pursuing a unilateral approach, a resolution will not be possible,” he said, according to Iranian state media.

Political Pressure Mounts On Trump Ahead Of Midterms

Trump has repeatedly claimed in recent weeks that the United States has effectively won the war against Iran, despite continued unrest and security concerns.

A recent security threat also reportedly forced American bombers to withdraw from a base in England.

The November 3 midterm elections are expected to play a significant role in determining the political direction of the final two years of Trump’s current term. His Republican Party faces the possibility of losing control of Congress.

Although Trump is not contesting the elections, he has been holding rallies to rally support for Republican candidates and prevent further political setbacks.

The president has warned that he could face a third impeachment if Democrats regain control of the House of Representatives. The White House is also preparing for possible investigations into allegations of corruption and abuse of power.

Trump also sought to clarify remarks he made at a rally earlier in the week, when he suggested that Iran could take out the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego.

The comments attracted criticism from Democrats, but Trump accused what he described as “fake and artificial news” of misrepresenting his statement.

In another Truth Social post on Thursday, the president explained that he was referring to the rising cost of gasoline as a price Americans might have to pay to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

“In actuality, what I was talking about was that a temporary increase in the price of Gasoline is a small price to pay for Iran not having a Nuclear Weapon and, if you want to see a big price, can you imagine what it would be like if they bombed San Diego and/or Los Angeles?” Trump wrote.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has praised the midfield partnership between Moisés Caicedo and Jordan Henderson following the Blues’ emphatic 5-1 victory over Bournemouth in the English Premier League (EPL) on Saturday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Alonso said the pair brought stability, balance and a better understanding of the game to Chelsea’s midfield, an area that had attracted concerns ahead of the encounter.

Henderson and Morgan Rogers both scored twice, while João Pedro also found the net as Chelsea returned from the international break with a commanding victory.

Speaking during his post-match press conference, Alonso was asked about the performance of Caicedo and Henderson and how effectively they worked together in midfield.

The Spanish tactician explained that although the two players possessed different qualities and positional attributes, they complemented each other well on the pitch.

“Both, in terms of qualities, are different, and in terms of positioning as well. I think that they help each other well and they give presence, they give stability.

“You know that they are going to be the ones that are going to be helping the rest, not just for their qualities because they understand the game.

“They can play in shorter spaces, but as well defensively, they give good balance,” Alonso said.

The Chelsea boss emphasised that strengthening the midfield was essential to the team’s continued development. He added that Caicedo and Henderson would be key figures in his efforts to establish a more effective unit.

“For me, it’s fundamental that we get that area strong and for sure with Moisés, Hendo played today, it was his second game,” he added.

Alonso also identified Romeo Lavia, Reece James and Valentin Barco as players who could provide additional options in midfield.

According to the manager, Lavia has already made useful contributions, while James has also featured in the middle of the park on several occasions.

Alonso said Chelsea would continue working to improve the department as he seeks to create a more balanced, dependable and competitive midfield capable of supporting the team’s ambitions.

Responding to a question about what could inspire hope among young Nigerians building their careers in the country, the actress said she continued to see opportunities in Nigeria despite the challenges confronting the nation.

She explained that her previous experience living in the United States had not diminished her desire to remain in Nigeria, which she considers home.
