The governments of Kwara, Ekiti and Oyo states have announced Monday, October 5, 2026, as a work-free day for teachers in commemoration of this year’s World Teachers’ Day.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The decision is aimed at allowing teachers across the three states to take part in activities organised to mark the annual celebration, which honours their contributions to education and societal development.
World Teachers’ Day is observed every October 5 globally to recognise the important role teachers play in shaping the lives of students and contributing to human capital development.
In Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq approved the work-free day and extended his goodwill to teachers across the state.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mashood Agboola.
Agboola said the governor appreciated the commitment and resilience of teachers, particularly their contributions to the development of human capital in the state.
He quoted AbdulRazaq as extending his best wishes to teachers across Kwara, noting that their contributions to human capital development remained highly valued.
The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of teachers and other residents of the state.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Government has also declared Monday a work-free day for teachers.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Adebimpe Aderiye, announced the decision while acknowledging the vital role teachers play in the development of the education sector and the future of children in the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Aderiye said the holiday was approved to enable teachers to participate fully in programmes organised to celebrate the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.
She further directed that day students should remain at home on Monday, October 5, while urging parents, guardians, school authorities and students to make the necessary arrangements.
The commissioner expressed the state government’s appreciation for the dedication and valuable contributions of teachers towards advancing education and securing a better future for children.
Similarly, the Oyo State Government has declared Monday a work-free day for teachers as part of activities marking World Teachers’ Day.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Sulaimon Olarenwaju, the decision underscores the administration’s commitment to the welfare, dignity and professional advancement of teachers.
The government described teachers as central to the state’s education system and important contributors to human capital development.
It said the work-free day would enable teachers to participate in activities celebrating their contributions, evaluate developments in the education sector and promote greater unity among members of the teaching profession.
The declarations by the three state governments are expected to give teachers sufficient time to participate in events organised to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration.

Osimhen Returns To Training Ahead Of Crucial Galatasaray Clash.
Galatasaray have received a major boost ahead of Friday’s Turkish Süper Lig encounter with Kasımpaşa, with Victor Osimhen returning to partial team training following a groin injury.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Nigerian striker joined his teammates during the opening stages of Wednesday’s training session at the Kemerburgaz Metin Oktay Facilities under manager Okan Buruk.
Osimhen took part in the warm-up, passing drills and initial team exercises before switching to an individual training programme under the supervision of Galatasaray’s medical staff.
The 27-year-old has been recovering from a right adductor injury sustained during Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over İstanbul Başakşehir on September 4.
Osimhen scored in the encounter but was forced to leave the pitch in the 33rd minute after experiencing discomfort.
Subsequent medical examinations revealed an advanced-moderate strain with bleeding in the right adductor muscle group.
The injury kept the forward out of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, as well as Galatasaray’s Champions League opener against Sporting CP and Süper Lig fixtures against Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.
During the international break, Osimhen continued his rehabilitation in Lagos after Galatasaray’s medical team advised against him joining the Super Eagles.
Taiwo Awoniyi was subsequently called up to replace him in Nigeria’s squad.
Osimhen is now being assessed for a possible return when Galatasaray host Kasımpaşa at Rams Park on Friday, October 9.
Reports from Turkey suggest Buruk may ease him back into action by giving him around 30 minutes rather than immediately restoring him to the starting XI.
The cautious approach would allow Galatasaray to evaluate Osimhen’s match fitness while managing his workload ahead of another difficult assignment against Barcelona in the Champions League on October 13.
Osimhen had made an impressive start to the season before suffering the injury, registering six goals and two assists in his first four Süper Lig appearances.
