Former National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement and Political Adviser to New Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi, Yunusa Tanko, has demanded ₦5 billion in damages from a fellow Obi supporter, Nmaa Ukpabi, over alleged defamatory publications.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Tanko, through his lawyers, V-C Ottaokpukpu & Associates, Umuchukwu Chambers, issued the demand in connection with statements allegedly made by Ukpabi regarding the disputed NDC House of Assembly ticket for Kawo Constituency in Kaduna State.

In a pre-action notice dated September 9, 2026, the lawyers accused Ukpabi of making what they described as defamatory and injurious statements about Tanko across social media platforms and WhatsApp groups.

The dispute stems from controversy surrounding the NDC primary election for Kawo Constituency, where Tanko’s son, Yunusa Mohammed Salisu, was declared the party’s candidate despite another aspirant, Rakiya Baba Mohammed, reportedly being declared winner of the primary.

According to the legal notice, Ukpabi repeatedly published statements alleging that Tanko manipulated the primary election process to secure the party’s ticket for his son.

The lawyers alleged that Ukpabi referred to Tanko as a “mandate thief orchestrator” and accused him of replacing Rakiya’s name with that of his son.

They also quoted Ukpabi as allegedly describing Tanko as a disappointment to the Obidient Movement and accusing him of corruption and dishonesty.

One of the statements attributed to Ukpabi allegedly accused Tanko of teaching his son to become a “mandate thief,” while another alleged that he had successfully taken Rakiya’s mandate and facilitated the replacement of her name with that of his son.

Ukpabi also allegedly described Tanko’s son as a “mandate thief” and claimed that Tanko attempted to influence political figures to pressure Rakiya.

Tanko’s lawyers said the alleged statements were circulated across several WhatsApp groups, including the All Inclusive Obidient Movement-General, Obidient Movement Lagos State, OK-Movement Kaduna State, All-Inclusive Obidient National Coordinators and All-Inclusive Obidient Leaders in NDC Coalition.

They further alleged that the publications portrayed their client as “a thief, corrupt, fraudulent, wicked, shameless, deceitful, untrustworthy and duplicitous.”

The lawyers also accused Ukpabi of alleging that Tanko manipulated the primary election and ensured that Rakiya was denied her purported victory in favour of his son.

According to the pre-action notice, the alleged statements were also circulated through WhatsApp,

“Atiku Is Now Apostle Of Anti-Corruption?” — Wike Fires Back.

Published

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has questioned whether the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has now positioned himself as an advocate of anti-corruption.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Wike made the remark on Monday while reacting to comments attributed to Atiku, in which the former Vice President reportedly urged Nigerians to accept money offered to them by the ruling party during elections.

Speaking during town hall meetings with the Rumueme and Apara kingdoms in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Wike described Atiku’s position as an attempt to encourage corrupt practices.

The FCT minister also criticised the Atiku-Amaechi ticket, alleging that both Atiku and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, have corruption-related issues.

Wike further claimed that the duo would face difficulties securing the constitutionally required 25 per cent of votes in Rivers State.

“When I saw Atiku on television yesterday, asking Nigerians to take any money given to them by people from the party in power, that it will be stolen money, I said, haa, Atiku is now an apostle of anti-corruption?” Wike said.

He added, “The same Atiku that his boss described as corrupt and that one of his major regrets is making him (Atiku) his Vice President is talking.”

Wike said his major political priority at the moment was ensuring President Bola Tinubu secures re-election in the 2027 presidential election.

He also appealed to Rivers residents to put aside political differences and support Tinubu, citing what he described as the administration’s achievements and appointments involving people from the state.

“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he said.

Wike further expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances in 2027, saying the president’s re-election campaign would be easier than the 2023 presidential contest.

“I know the reelection of Tinubu in 2027 will be easier than that of 2023. We should appreciate Tinubu and ensure massive votes for him. We can do it,” he said.

The FCT minister urged his supporters to remain calm and leave the outcome of the election to God.

“What will be, will be. You don’t need to kill yourself. Anything that God said would be, it would be,” Wike added.
