The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is scheduled to hear Senegal’s legal challenge on October 8, 2026, following the controversial decision to strip the nation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to Morocco.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

    • Hearing Details: The closed-door proceedings will commence at 9:30 a.m. at CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, as neither side requested an open hearing.

    • Panel Composition: A three-member panel led by French arbitrator Prof Gérald Simon, alongside Italy’s Prof Luigi Fumagalli and Germany’s Prof Dr Ulrich Haas, will manage the case in French.

    • Background of the Dispute: The controversy stems from the AFCON 2025 final held on January 18, 2026, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, where Senegal initially triumphed 1-0 in extra time via a 94th-minute goal by Pape Gueye.

    • Match Drama: Normal time saw a nearly 20-minute delay after several Senegalese players temporarily walked off the pitch in protest of a late penalty awarded to Morocco following a VAR review, which Brahim Diaz ultimately missed.

    • CAF Ruling & Appeal: In March 2026, the CAF Appeals Board ruled that Senegal violated Article 82 of the tournament regulations, declaring them to have forfeited the match and handing Morocco a 3-0 victory and the championship. Consequently, the Senegalese Football Federation appealed to CAS on March 25 to reverse the decision.

Representatives from the Senegalese and Royal Moroccan football federations will appear in person alongside CAF’s legal team. While the hearing takes place on October 8, a final verdict will not be issued immediately and is instead anticipated by mid-November following panel deliberations.
