The apex court’s seven-member panel had previously restored Sections 77(5), 77(7), and 84(2) of the Electoral Act, reversing an earlier invalidation by the Court of Appeal. Reacting to the verdict, Adeyanju emphasized that under Section 287(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), INEC is legally bound to enforce decisions made by the Supreme Court without delay.

To give full effect to the judgment, Adeyanju urged the electoral body to immediately update its official portal by removing the names of candidates from political parties impacted by the ruling. He maintained that the commission must execute all necessary administrative steps promptly to ensure its official records accurately reflect the Supreme Court’s directives.

Adeyeye emphasized that he strongly desires reconciliation to unify the ruling party ahead of the 2027 presidential election, noting that bringing everyone together is crucial for a resounding victory. However, he admitted that Aregbesola’s current ties to the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) complicate potential peace efforts, as a sudden switch back could let down his loyal followers.

Addressing the political landscape in Osun State, Adeyeye dismissed notions that Aregbesola’s alignment with the ADC poses an overwhelming threat to the APC. He pointed to the outcomes of the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Ilesa and Osun Central to question the party’s electoral impact there, stressing that personal popularity does not automatically transfer to another candidate when Aregbesola is not on the ballot.

Nevertheless, Adeyeye acknowledged Aregbesola’s enduring political stature, admitting that if the former governor were personally contesting, he would remain a formidable and hard-to-beat opponent in Osun. Concluding with absolute confidence, Adeyeye asserted that the APC is fully prepared to work hard and shock critics by securing a massive victory in the South-West come 2027.
