Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the maiden Annual National Conference of Local Government Council Chairmen and Traditional Rulers Councils, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede emphasized that the commission’s demand for transparency extends beyond the federal level. Represented by the Director of Public Affairs, Commander CE Wilson Uwujaren, Olukoyede noted that higher revenue allocations to local councils must directly reflect in improved living conditions for rural populations.

Key Highlights from the EFCC Report:

  • Massive Asset Recoveries: The EFCC recorded over ₦1.233 trillion in recoveries between October 2023 and the review period, alongside significant sums in foreign currencies including about $684.48 million, £373,905.78, and €9.34 million.

  • Repurposing Recovered Funds: Recovered assets have been channeled into national developments, such as ₦50 billion each allocated to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, as well as converting the forfeited former NOK University into the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, which enrolled 1,909 students by December 2025.

  • National Security & Digitalization: The anti-graft agency linked economic crimes to national security challenges like illegal mining and money laundering, noting that nearly 60 percent of its operations have been digitalized to safeguard Nigeria’s digital economy.

  • Grassroots Development Focus: Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, President Bola Tinubu underscored that national development cannot happen solely from the center and must drive bottom-up growth across healthcare, education, and rural infrastructure.
