Sharing his devastating story with journalists on Friday, a 50-year-old father, Musa Aliyu—who has been sick for a year—revealed that he lost two of his sons, 17-year-old Ibrahim and 12-year-old Abubakar. According to Aliyu, the boys were his primary caregivers who helped purchase his medications. They had left for the mining site at Mohammed Inuwa Wushishi Housing Estate on Wednesday but never returned.
When Aliyu’s wife went to look for them at the NSCDC office near the PDP Secretariat alongside other anxious relatives, she received the devastating news that their children had passed away and were told to retrieve their bodies from the General Hospital. A grieving Aliyu stated that he has left the culprits to God, though he strongly believes his sons were killed.
Another affected parent, Lawal Mohammad, expressed profound anguish over the loss of his 15-year-old son, Suleiman. Mohammad recounted how security personnel blocked him from delivering food to his son on the day of the arrest. After being turned away on Wednesday night and told to return the next morning, he was shocked to discover upon his return on Thursday that his son was already dead.
Mohammad witnessed the bodies being loaded into ambulances at the facility and strongly insisted that those responsible must pay compensation to serve as a lesson against the abuse of authority. He urged relevant authorities to launch a full-scale investigation and hold all culpable individuals accountable.
