Reacting to the APC Governors’ Forum’s rejection of any coalition that might weaken the ruling party, Olesin defended the Nyesom Wike-led Rainbow Coalition, emphasizing that political actors possess the constitutional right to support candidates of their choice, regardless of party lines. He argued that no democratic principle restricts a party or group from backing a presidential candidate outside its own platform, firmly declaring that “the coalition has come to stay.”
Furthermore, Olesin challenged APC governors to shift their focus away from fighting emerging alliances and instead concentrate on good governance, strengthening party structures, and demonstrating how state financial allocations have tangibly improved citizens’ lives. He concluded that the ultimate decision regarding electoral choices and political alliances rests with the Nigerian electorate.
