Ogun PDP Petitions IGP Over Alleged Attack On Campaign Train

Published

on

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to dispatch a special investigation team to conduct a thorough, impartial probe into a series of violent incidents and alleged harassment against its members.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

1. Attack on Campaign Convoy in Ososa:

  • The Incident: State PDP Chairman, Dr. Abayomi Tella, reported that on Wednesday, during the flag-off of the Ogun East campaign, the party’s convoy was attacked in Ososa, Odogbolu Local Government Area.

  • Details of Violence: Hoodlums allegedly fired gunshots and threw stones at the rear vehicles of the campaign train.

  • Damage and Injury: Several vehicles were damaged, including that of Hon. Agbolade (the party’s candidate for the constituency), whose alloy rim was penetrated by a bullet. Several party members sustained injuries during the attack.

  • Police Response Criticized: Tella stated that the incident was reported to the Idowa Police Division and Igbeba Area Command. However, he expressed dismay that instead of investigating the attackers, police arrested five to six PDP members who were victims of the assault. He urged the police to “act with conscience” and release the detained members.

2. Blockade of Campaign Venue in Idowa:

  • Venue Approval: Tella alleged that the PDP was prevented from holding their campaign flag-off at their chosen venue in Idowa, despite receiving prior approval from the Olootu in charge and paying the required ₦170,000 fee.

  • Last-Minute Prevention: Party officials were blocked from accessing the venue just hours before the event, forcing them to relocate the rally to Odogbolu.

  • Further Resistance: Later, as the campaign train attempted to pass through Idowa, they faced further resistance from individuals claiming instructions from the traditional ruler to stop the convoy.

Political Context and Reactions

  • APC Response: Olufemi Nuberu, the Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, countered the allegations by condemning “sporadic shooting” during the incident. Nuberu alleged that the shooting involved security personnel attached to the PDP governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, and also called on the IGP to investigate.

  • PDP Position: Dr. Tella maintained that the incidents were part of a deliberate “game plan” by the ruling party to intimidate, victimize, and suppress the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections. He affirmed that the PDP remains united and committed to peaceful political engagement.

Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, has publicly challenged the US-based political advisory and lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York to substantiate claims linking President Bola Tinubu to historical drug trafficking. In a Saturday statement shared via his verified X account, Fani-Kayode addressed the 1993 civil forfeiture complaint filed by the US Department of Justice in the Northern District of Illinois, clarifying that the action targeted property rather than serving as a personal criminal conviction or a finding that Tinubu smuggled narcotics.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Emphasizing that being the subject of an investigation does not equate to an indictment, prosecution, or conviction, Fani-Kayode demanded that the firm produce explicit evidence and pinpoint where the US government or the DEA formally alleged that the President personally smuggled heroin. He reiterated that the 1993 filings and subsequent 2026 FBI declarations reflect a civil settlement over funds rather than proof of personal involvement, ultimately challenging the firm to back up its sweeping claims regarding institutional corruption.
