Benue State Commissioner for Information, Solomon Iorpev, has blamed Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi for heightening tensions with the state administration after entering Benue without officially notifying the government. Addressing the disruption of Obi’s convoy by youths in the state capital on Tuesday, Iorpev argued that a figure of Obi’s political stature as a former governor ought to have formally informed state authorities ahead of time.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to the commissioner, this lack of prior notice made it impossible for the government to take full responsibility or guarantee adequate security for Obi and his entourage, noting that the politician has repeatedly neglected to follow proper protocol during past visits.

Iorpev remarked:

“A high-profile person who has been a former governor of a state is coming into the state; he should have written a letter to the State Government. We are supposed to guarantee his safety and protection, but in an instance where no letter was written, we could not guarantee his safety. This is not the first time he is doing this. He is just looking for our trouble. We are peace loving and hospitable people. So, if they were coming from either Tarka, Gboko, Buruku, Ushongo, Konshisha or Vandeikya at the same time of his visit and blocked the road, it is unfortunate. I do not know the youths who did that.”

“I Won’t Beg!”: Defiant Lamine Yamal Drops Bombshell On Ballon d’Or Race

Published

on

Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has declared that he will not actively campaign for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, choosing instead to let his achievements on the pitch speak for themselves. At just 19 years old, Yamal stands as a frontrunner for the prestigious prize following a stellar campaign that saw him help Spain clinch the World Cup and guide Barcelona to another La Liga title, building on his second-place finish behind Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembélé last year. Addressing reporters, Yamal expressed complete satisfaction with his season, stating that winning the World Cup and the league leaves him with nothing more to ask for. He asserted that he refuses to beg for votes, leaving the final decision entirely up to the voters and media.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The young star faces fierce competition for the award from heavyweights such as Kylian Mbappé—who bolstered his credentials by claiming the World Cup Golden Boot and becoming the tournament’s all-time leading scorer—as well as Dembélé, Harry Kane, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Responding playfully to Dembélé omitting him from a top-three prediction list in favor of players like Mbappé, Yamal quipped that Dembélé is simply good friends with Mbappé, adding that he remains unbothered and believes his performances on the pitch must have frustrated his rivals.

Having fully recovered from a hamstring injury sustained in April, Yamal has hit top form with recent goals against Rayo Vallecano and Valencia. Fresh off winning the World Cup and enjoying what he describes as the best holidays of his life, the teenager admits he has never been happier. His attention is now firmly locked on the UEFA Champions League, where Barcelona kicks off their campaign against Feyenoord on Wednesday. While Barcelona last lifted the trophy in 2015 and faced knockout exits in recent seasons, manager Hansi Flick remains confident in the squad’s capability to fight for the title. Flick lauded Yamal’s match-winning quality, emphasizing that the winger’s sheer joy for the game is the secret behind his elite-level performances. The winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or will be crowned at a ceremony in London on October 26.
