The airport operation led to the August 22 arrest of 49-year-old cross-border suspect Akinbile Kazeem Aikins upon his arrival from Accra, Ghana. Operatives found 47,200 Captagon pills—worth over ₦1.5 billion and infamous for their link to extremist groups—ingeniously concealed inside blocks of local “Ghana Soap” that he intended to deliver to northern Nigeria. In a separate airport swoop on August 28, authorities recovered 3,900,030 abandoned opioid tablets (comprising Tramaking and Tapentadol) weighing 2,787.40kg and valued at over ₦4.6 billion, following shipments routed from Bangladesh and Amsterdam via RwandAir and Qatar Airways.

Lagos State: Sowunmi David Oludotun, 31, was nabbed in Lekki’s Ikate area on August 19 for trying to claim 3.350kg of “Loud” (a potent synthetic cannabis strain) shipped from the UK.

Rivers State: A raid on a Port Harcourt drug den on August 25 yielded cocaine, heroin, and Colorado cannabis secured inside a fireproof iron safe broken open with a welding machine.

Ondo State: Five suspects were arrested across different locations between August 26 and 28, with operatives intercepting over a tonne (totaling 1,069kg) of skunk.

Delta State: Over 176,000 assorted opioid pills, including tramadol and molly, were seized across two separate operations from August 26 to 28.
Alongside enforcement actions, the NDLEA advanced its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns, hosting awareness programs in schools, religious institutions, and corporate spaces across Gombe, Kano, Edo, Ondo, and Taraba states—including advocacy visits to Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Agbu Kefas. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) commended the operatives for their exploits, urging them to keep up the pressure on traffickers and maintain a balanced strategy of stringent enforcement alongside public enlightenment.
