To address post-election violence in Osun State following the recent governorship polls, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has outlined several security measures. In an interview with Punch, Force spokesperson Ani Iniedu stated that personnel deployed for Saturday’s election remain stationed in the state, alongside newly positioned anti-riot units and undercover operatives placed in strategic areas.

Iniedu explained, “The officers who came for the election are still on the ground. We have deployed anti-riot police officers to flashpoints and junctions across a few states. We have undercover agents moving from one point to the other, flipping out the intelligence and informing the police.”

Senior leadership is actively overseeing the operations, with a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), and Commissioners of Police (CPs) directing the post-election security framework.

Highlighting the extensive deployment, Iniedu added, “The DIG is coordinating the election on the ground. The AIG is on the ground. The CP is on the ground. So we are on full alert to ensure that nothing untoward happens as part of our post-election security plan.”

Prior to the election, authorities had mobilized over 15,000 personnel, at least 30 Commissioners of Police, and a Deputy Inspector-General to manage security for the exercise.

News reports that Momodu, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, said the APC is afraid that the Osun gubernatorial election has sent the wrong signal to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 election.

The veteran journalist also asserted that President Bola Tinubu lost in the Osun election, stressing that APC’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji and Gboyega Oyetola were name-droppers using the President’s name in the state.
