Early Education and Corporate Experience

Adeleke’s educational journey spanned several institutions:

  • Primary and Secondary Education: He attended Methodist Primary School in Surulere, Lagos; Nawarudeen Primary School in Ikire, Osun State; Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School, Ede; and completed his secondary education at Ede Muslim Grammar School, Ede.

  • Tertiary Education: He moved to the United States, attending Jacksonville State University in Alabama before earning his degree from Atlanta Metropolitan State College in Georgia.

Before entering public service, Adeleke built an extensive career in the private sector:

  • Worked as a service contractor with Quicksilver Courier Company in Atlanta, Georgia (1985–1989).

  • Served as Vice President of Origin International LLC, a flavor and fragrance manufacturing firm in Atlanta (1990–1994).

  • Returned to Nigeria to serve as an Executive Director at Guinness Nigeria Plc (1992–1999) and later as Group Executive Director at his family’s conglomerate, Pacific Holdings Limited (2001–2016).

Political Entry and Legislative Career

Adeleke entered active politics in 2001 alongside his late elder brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, the first civilian governor of Osun State. Following his brother’s passing in April 2017, he shifted from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Running under the PDP, he won the July 2017 Osun West Senatorial District by-election, serving in the 8th National Assembly until 2019.

The 2018 Contest and 2022 Victory

  • 2018 Election: Adeleke secured the PDP governorship ticket in 2018, facing Gboyega Oyetola of the APC and Iyiola Omisore of the SDP. Following an initial inconclusive poll and a subsequent rerun, Oyetola was declared the winner. Although legal battles followed—culminating in the Supreme Court affirming Oyetola’s victory in July 2019—Adeleke remained undeterred.

  • 2022 Victory: In the July 16, 2022 governorship election, Adeleke returned on the PDP platform and defeated the incumbent governor, securing wins across 17 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas.

The ‘Dancing Senator’ Persona and Public Life

Ahead of the 2018 elections, opposition figures raised certificate allegations concerning his educational credentials, though a legal suit at the High Court in Osogbo was ultimately dismissed after the claims were unproven.

In public spaces, Adeleke became widely known for his energetic dance routines at public events and political rallies. Embracing the moniker the ‘Dancing Senator,’ he turned it into a signature element of his public identity that connected with younger demographics and grassroots supporters.

Family and Current Path

Governor Adeleke is married to Mrs. Titilola Adeleke, and they have three children: Adebayo Adeleke (B-Red), Shina Adeleke (Shina Rambo), and Nike Adeleke. He is also the uncle of global Afrobeats artist David Adeleke (Davido).
